I have just picked up a Tom Tom rider sat nav, the unit itself works fine but the bike cradle is knackered. Does anyone here know what the pinout are on the back of the unit, it has 7 pins. There is no power getting to the sat nav so I need to bypass the voltage convertor built into the back of the cradle.
Which Rider is it R2 has a jack on the cradle - plug straight in and fused to the Battery direct.
Rider 1 has a plug in receptor,
Both have the same 4 pin receivers on the cradle. You have also bypass the 4 pin connectors for power by plugging straight into the unit through the little door where power and usb slots are.Thats Rider one & two not sure about the newer ones.
I don't know what number it is but the unit sits in a cradle fitted to the bike which has 7 pins. Unfortunately the 12 - 5v converter in the back of the cradle has gone home early so I'm hoping to bypass it and fit a stand alone 12-5v convertor but I need to know which pins are the live and ground.
Mick J, tried to find a wiring diagram for you, but no luck so far. I did read that these units take 5v input, not 12V! so a direct hard-wire from the battery will cook a diode or fusible part on the main board inside the tom-tom, rendering it useless unless you know your way around these things with a soldering iron.
I'd suggest the tomtom shop for a new cradle with the correct 7pin connector.

That correct Eric - that is why you need the correct connection to the Battery - I used a cigarette socket with the provided cord direct into the Rider.
From when I used to own a TomTom Rider v2, I believe it only used 4 out of the 7 pins, but which are which I have no idea. I remember when my cradle packed up - some 10 years ago - and getting replacement parts then was virtually impossible.
Without wishing to be a killjoy, in all honesty its probably cheaper to get a new(er) Sat Nav rather than try to get power to this one through the cradle. You may have to rely on how good the battery is in the unit itself.
In surfing the web, the nearest I've found to pin identification is this diagram - not sure if it helps or not, but does say its for the TT Rider - but whether its right or not who knows.

Thanks to all of you, I have found the correct pin outs and have fixed the cradle and everything works fine, just need to replace some of the RAM Mount bits and we are sorted.

Turns out it was more than a simple problem, a bit of a mechanical fault and a bit of an electrical fault, the cradle casing was cracked so water had got into the electrics causing a short so once I had completely stripped it down, cleaned it all up and rebuilt it the dam thing worked, once I realised it is a 12v unit and not 5v. The previous owner had wiring it up to a usb plug which is why I had nothing coming out of the cradle. I should have realised how good he was by the way the sat nav was mounted, it was a proper pigs orphan.
