Good evening, first of all, sorry if I'm not following the proper protocol — I'm new to the forum. I've been reading it for a long time, and it has helped me technically with my 14 K6.
Now I've reached a point where I can't find an apparent solution in the forum.
My 14 decided to stop the other day while riding. It started misfiring with a noise similar to running on 3 cylinders. No error codes are showing. The bike tries to start — it seems like it almost does in the first few cycles — but it won't start.
I took it home and, even though I could see spark on the spark plugs, I read that it might not be of sufficient quality, so I changed the coils for new ones — but the issue persists.
I did a compression test (just in case), and the results are all above the manual's minimum and very consistent across cylinders.
The fuel pump starts properly and delivers a good flow, but I don't have the tools to check the pressure.
Any idea what it could be? Which direction should I take?
So far, I think it's a fuel issue (since there's air and spark...), as if the injectors aren't opening. Any suggestions on how to check that? (That's just an idea — but please, any theory is welcome.)
Thank you very much to all!
When you say the fuel pump delivers a good flow - what exactly are you checking for this.
I'm just wondering whether your fuel filter / tea bag is clogged up. When you turn the bike over are the plugs getting wet - i.e. is fuel getting through?
May be worth just checking that everything there is clear https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=430.0
Pressure check required.A spray of aerostart in air box will confirm a fuel issue but not the reason. Stopped while riding, pressure regulator mightve come loose on pump housing🤷
My thoughts as well Grog, reckon pressure regulator clip has come off.
Ask
@Snapey about what the symptoms are for that situation, he had that exact thing happen to him ages ago.
Going through similar here, can confirm my pressure reg was firmly in place, had a dodgy electrical connection, but that still hadn't fixed it. Also runs on 2 or 3 cylinders only.
Actually pressure regulator clip is a good call.

Solved! Thank you very much for all the comments and contributions from the whole community.
Obviously, you were right. While I was waiting for the fuel pressure gauge to arrive, I took the pump apart. As soon as I removed it, I saw that the bracket had come off and the pressure regulator was out of place. So, indeed, the correct pressure wasn't being reached.
I reassembled everything properly, and it started up on the first try.
I have to admit I feel a bit embarrassed for having done so many tests without taking the pump apart earlier...
Thank you very much!
Well done Mate👍Hope you wired it on
All good mate, glad it's sorted for ya.

Its what we're here for - glad its all sorted :onya:
I'm always gladdened to see this forum helping others with issues. Usually ones they've experienced themselves.
I think I'm very lucky 🍀 I've not experienced too many issues to date "touch wood" hand to forehead lol 😂
I'm not mechanically minded so if there's anything other than oil and filters it's straight to Stu @ Rising Sun in Capalaba 🥇🥇🥇
Agree Chris, thumbs up to the forum, good people passing on their knowledge.
Great result :onya:
