Title: Speedo healer - to buy or not to buy ?
Post by: Chrisl on Tuesday, 03 June 2025, 06:01 AM
In the past I have used sticky labels to mark strategic numbers on kph speedos.

I'm wondering whether to get a healer and looking for some advice from you chaps.

That is the question.....

I had one on my Black then transferred it to the Blue. They are not difficult to set up & install.  Each bike is / has a different variance of the speedo, so for me just swapping it from one bike to the other didn't work, I had to calibrate it again as if new, no biggie, just something ya have to do if you swap it to another bike.

To get the correct speed for the calibration I used the GPS feature on the cell phone to give me the actual speed.  You really need an empty road for this as you need to do several runs & record the 2 speeds (GPS vs Speedo) on each.  Like a 20kph then a 30kph run & so on till you get to 100k or 120k.  The more runs you do with the 2 recorded figures the more accurate you're going to be able to set the device.  I wanted the best accuracy I could get, (that's why I brought it in the first place) so I did plenty of runs.  Yeah, it's a bit of a faf getting to a steady 40kph & watching both instruments for what they're reading (hence the need for an empty / quiet road)and stopping & recording after each run, Took me about ½ an hour to get the data.  Then it's a matter of working out the percent difference at each speed, so at 30kph you may be 5% too fast on the speedo but at 110kph you're 7.5% too fast.  This is why the more data points you have to set the healer the better accuracy you'll display.

So you then average the percentages and use that as the setting for the speedo healer, or you can use say just the greatest variance or whatever you want really. It's a set & forget item, once done you never need touch it again. They're waterproof too, so no issue with leaving them under the seat.  Had mine zip tied to the loom that passes under the tank mount in front of the seat.  Was completely hidden & never was in the way.

This is all from memory because it was years ago I did this, but still remember it, I think?    Healtech may have a new improved version out by now but I'd say the same process will apply, you'll still have to put in what percentage you want to adjust the speed by.

Last thing, while your speedo will show 100% accurate speed, your odo will tick over slower by the same percentage you changed the speedo to.  One of mine was 7.5% out (reading too fast) and the other was 10.5% too fast.  Oddly enough, the 10.5% was the Blue, which could explain why the B/W brigade think their colour is faster!!

I wouldn't bother as then the mileage will be wrong.

I checked several ways & know my 14 was recording accurate mileage but displaying 8.5% high on speed,

Jeez Col I'd run out of gas before I got that sorted.
I work on 3000rpm in top gear is near enough to 100kph with a 55 profile rear tyre.
Unless you all tell me I'm wrong  :whatever:

I fitted one to my previous bike, but now just use a speedo app on my phone.

I use Speedometer 55, the free version (I wasn't interested in the extras in the Pro version). It's developed by Stanislav Dvoychenko.

Even google maps shows your speed these days when actively navigating, that's enough to remember a few comparisons. As I recall mine was about 32/30, 44/40, 67/60 & 140/127 (not that I ever speed officer).
