Title: Another 14
Post by: Stepdoug on Thursday, 01 May 2025, 04:55 AM
OK. Evening all Never left but did sell my 14 couple of years ago,
Got the itch again for another one.
So going to look at another 14 on sat (5th) one as they are getting older as none really after 08.
Are there any older bike issues to keep an eye out for?
Had to sell my last ones as had a few problems with the hips sitting on one. But been working on that  issue
Looking at a 03 plate 22000 miles they are after £5.499. Full service history and 12 months warranty,  Franks at colchester,
Don't know how many owners , but thats not really an issue ,
Cheers  will let you know how it goes

22,000,  barely run in!  When you say an 03 plate do you mean the bike is a K3?  I'd be looking for a K6, K7 or K8.

Yes as in a 2003 plate over here.
Newer ones are just stupid money , and I'm not paying 7 or £8000 for one as much as I like them.
Now only doing a 1000 miles a year
So don't see the point in a huge outlay, as long as it's a faster blue and white should all be OK.

Things are looking good for my K5 with 100,000 plus miles on it, it has to be worth at least 2000 GBP. And the Givi lugguge with twin pipe bracket another 1000 GBP.

Earlier model 14's had second gear issue if they'd been ragged. Maybe worth giving it a bit if stick through second a couple of times to check second gear is ok.

Good point I'm looking at a k3 ? But have found a k6 with only 7000 miles on it but they want nearly 7000 quid for it

22k isn't even run in on a 14. I saw almost 183k on mine with it still running perfectly before some lovely cheeky youths decided they wanted it. Never had a 2nd gear issue either, that only happens if you don't get it fully in gear & the dogs slip out again so they wear. I believe the later boxes were undercut so in the same conditions the cogs pull themselves together.

Check the preload adjusters work on the rear shocks, they're known to seize on early bikes. I'd do the same with the compression adjusters at the bottom of the front forks too as they seize as well.

Hooli, not at all telling you what to do but, chapters been over in my life, try another path. I went from pommy bikes, then jap bikes, then italian then back to jap. After all that, i have knowledge on each, memories forever.Ends up a good collection of good, mistakes, bad decisions, good decisions. Pretty much how life is.👍

I'm not sure what way I'll go yet Grog. I get what you're saying & kinda feel the same that a change is always good. Problem is there's nothing out there I've wanted for years, the thought has occurred on what to replace my 14 with as it got older & indeed I tried twice. Neither worked out, I sold the Triumph as it was crap & although I do like the HD & it's staying, it's not a real bike in the way a 14 is.

No rush anyway, I can't afford owt & the insurance is making sure that won't change soon.

Cheers hoolie. Preload on the front are a flat head screw ???
Forgot about them had thought about the rear ones. It has a12 months  warranty on it but depends how good that is when trying to use it

Yeah that's how the front ones look on K2-K4. It's only got two O-rings to seal it & crud seems to get around the head & make it seize up. Later forks don't have the same issue. Somewhere in the how to sections on here are a load of pics of one taken apart if you're interested enough.

I'd kept the link to help argue the value of mine.
