Hello all,
I'm trying to get information on how one would go about adding fairing attached mirrors to a gsx1400.
There's a man in Japan (Gijinkun) who has some fitted to his 14.
I'd like to do something along the same lines but I haven't figured out how to go about it, except the very broad concept of finding/having made a bracket of some sort to attach the mirrors solidly to the frame and then through the fairing.
I have looked at many photos of that particular bike and can't see very much of how it's done.
It may not be a popular idea for many, but I've had bar mounted and fairing mounted mirrors and I would prefer fairing mounted on my 14.
It already has a small cockpit fairing on it from webike (previous owner ).
Ideally I'd like to take a good quality factory twin headlight setup from another bike and find a way to make that fit.
Opinions welcome
I'll add a picture for better reference.
Looking at that pic I wouldn't have thought putting mirrors there would be too much of a bother, once you have the fairing of course.
I'd just brace the back of the mounting area with a bit of steel, say 2mm thick?, maybe even glass it on. Drill your holes & you're good. So long as you spread the load over a decent area you should be fine.
Thanks for the reply KC.
Flywheel, what Col said. Aluminium plate option plus rubber gasket either side.
Now I've seen the picture I'm impressed by the look and that colour scheme 👍👍
I wonder what you'd see in those mirrors though ? Unless you were very thin I'd suggest armpits 😳😳
That looks like the cockpit fairing a few mates have, you'd definitely need a frame inside it for mirrors as they aren't a strong thing on their own.
My first thought would be something from the headlight mounting bolt curving up to where the mirrors are & a leg going down to a threaded hole/nut welded on to the headlight brackets that fit around the forks. Kinda like a wide inverted Y. Maybe a cross brace behind the clocks too just to stop it flexing & causing the mirrors to rattle.

That would be a solid job I'm guessing.
Thanks Hooli :onya:
I'm pretty much basing it on the brackets for the fairing on my Hornet. With the difference that goes back to the frame.
Thanks to all who replied.
What I'd love to do is fit a full front fairing from something like a blade or basically a bike with good twin headlights, subframe n all for mirrors.
I've seen pictures of 1400 owners that did it,but no detailed write up's of how it's done.
I would imagine the wiring mods to go from a single H4 to twin H7 would be considerable, also keeping in mind the charging system parameters.
I know people would probably say, if I want all that why not buy a different bike but it's something I'd like to do to my 1400.
Anyway thanks again for the replies people :onya: :onya:
Headlight wise if you can find a good LED replacement bulb the 14 headlight becomes excellent. Unfortunately you can't get the one I had fitted any more so I can't suggest anything.
SA14 headlight / LED thread . . . that went well, not.
7" sealed round headlight unit works very well. See www.stedi.com.au and search for '7" iris' had mine in for a few years now, works very well.
