My bike ran great up to Xmas, with only a small break, now I can't start it, Batt test 12.77 and been on charge, if I turn key get clocks set and lights and fuel pump prime. When I press start the lights dim, no click at solenoid and no starter motor action at all. If I short Soleniod then it starts. Help!!
Sounds like a bad earth, I'd be cleaning & tightening those. Put away wet & a bit of corrosion built up in the joints?
We have an Intro section where new members introduce themselves to the rest of the group & tell us a little about themselves & their bike (bikes) and riding experience & where they're located etc.
have a look at this link BuzzardR6. https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?board=20.0
Oh & welcome to the forum.
Fixed
Still too kind Col. Is he from Facebook perhaps ?
Another time waster
There is a rule set up in software so that no one can send a PM until they have 5 posts. I must be possible to not allow anyone to post in anything other than the new member section first.
There is Mick, couple of other forums I belong to are set up this way.
I don't want to sound critical (you're doing a fantastic job or running the forum) but why don't you set that up, it might stop a lot of one shot wonders.
That one for the boss, I have put it to him though.
Thanks Kiwicol, will add to the list of tests on Saturday when not working. Will also do the intro promise, but getting my new toy back working was the prority sorry. I have replaced soleniod but that changed nothing. Have been told to check stand and clutch wiring too
Clutch Switch at the lever, if that's dodgy it won't turn over & would 100% do as you describe. Sidestand switch won't stop it from starting, it will stop the engine if you put it in gear with the stand down though.
You can check if it's the clutch switch by bridging the wires & see if it fires up. Don't be tempted to leave it like this though as it tells the ECU to run a start up mixture. Yeah I know some people do leave it like this, but the bike won't run properly.
Yeah, it was the Clutch switch, thanks so much, found bit of WD40 got it going again but ordered replacement just in case.
