Today we have this mongrel tropical cyclone coming down the coast. Destructive bastards is the only good thing to say about them. Map has it heading exactly my way but they can deviate anywhere. All precautions done, wait n see what happens.
Hopefully Alfred gives you a wide berth. Keep safe over there.
https://youtu.be/1cGjmlaY_84 This was quite intriguing
The usual morons are cleaning out the shops of bread and toilet paper in preparation for a complete disaster.
I'm fairly confident we'll get lots of wind and some heavy downpours which may lead to minor flooding. We are 27 meters above sea level so feel very safe.
Port of Brisbane planning to close Thursday and Friday so probably going to have a 4 day weekend which means chore's apparently (according to Bobbie)
Stay safe Mr. Grog
Having seen some fire and floods and storms here a bit closer than I'd like, we were really fussy about where we bought and built.
670m above sea level, 200mm steel for sheds not 150, brick house etc etc.
We have been cut off a couple of times being rural, but that's not a huge drama. We don't have good shops at the end of the street so keep enough stuff in house for a while anyway.
I have some pics of working at the Port. We had a heap of shipping containers drop onto a double row of brand new Audi's about to go out to customers. It got a bit wild out there that time.

Can't be that big then, Oz is only an island after all :whistling:
It's blown us sideways :whatever:

Reasonable size island though . . . That system is bigger than our whole country & we're 1500Km long approx.
Heading home from the city I call into Coles for a couple of things. Car park is packed! I'm doing laps trying to find a space. In store and there are long queues at the tills. I ask one of the staff what's going on? She laughs... "News said Cyclone and everyone is panic buying", apparently it'd been like that all morning!
My panic buying was a Chicken and Mushroom Filo pastry and another Grevillea for the front yard.

@Hooli was incorrect we're actually a continent 🙀

if we are all old farts we could turn that around and say , "Hooli was correct, we're actually incontinent"
Yeah for those in the UK we rarely get cyclones this far south (Brisbane, Australia) but it's gonna get really windy and VERY wet - at the least.
Fingers crossed won't lose power for long because I don't have a generator.
And yes supermarket shelves are empty, and I've been too sick to get out of the house to do some shopping earlier in the week.
Height above sea level didn't do us here on the hill in Toowoomba (and surrounds) any favours in 2011 unfortunately. At least there hasn't been soaking rain in the area likely to be affected like there was then. The wind is another story however...
My mum's one block back from the beach at Kawana in a multi-level apartment complex, so she's a little nervous currently.
The wife and I are both power industry electricians and will be having a forced day off on Thursday as a fatigue reset ready to respond however we can. Here's hoping I don't bump into any of you whilst doing my thing.
Stay safe.

I thought you were both?
I learned everything about Oz from Mad Max...

It's not a great time to be in-continent then?
Depends, if you're one of the crowd that stocked up on bog paper you might be alright.
They stock up, imbeciles. Toilet paper by the dozen??? Water completely sold out wtf, huge rain coming, just stick a bucket outside🤷.Every battery of every size, must be lasting 6 months cyclone.Strange world this one, greedy people.Frogwits.
When we had a lock down for covid everyone was buying bog roll and pasta by the truckload, and even after all this time I still can't find the recipe.

Ah, I see where you've gone wrong Mick.
It's not a recipe...you must have missed the influencer who said bog roll works better if you wrap it round some pasta (not the thin stuff, for obvious reasons).
Try it, your life will never be the same!
Lovely day here now .
Rained considerably and consistently during last night.
Couple of screenshots 👍
Looks like landfall now likely Friday arvo/night so a bit of respite.
It will bring a lot of rain particularly for those south of the eye (esp Gold Coast and northern NSW).
One of my wife's terminally lazy Canberra colleagues was saying what a pain the cyclone is because it's preventing her from spending the weekend at her beachside holiday house in NSW. Self absorbed much?!
We've been stood down today & Friday not just from cyclonic winds etc. we'd run out of work in 4 days. Port was closed Sunday night and container ships advised to hold off even presenting to Port of Brisbane region.
Just shows how last minute all the freight mainly from China is.
Luckily we make toilet paper in Australia 🙏
Sure is a long waiting game. Traffic the only good thing, like 1970s👍
Mister Squiggle makes more sense than the Bureau of Mystery 😳
With driving like that I think it might be cyclone Alfreda
Our news reported you getting a 17m wave...shite !!
Keep safe people.
Huge waves Col, 17 metres on top of swell that is. Im so glad to be 10k from coast. Youre trip looking good, well done.
And still some Darwin Award contenders would be headed out for a surf....
Stormchasers had to be rescued from waves😡Next will be looters. Its an easy script to follow. I forgot about the GoFunders, insurance just a waste of money.

Yep. Heavy Police presence threatening $16k fines. But Police should be monitoring real issues not chasing dickheads. 👊👊👊
Looters should be given to those they've wronged for some justice :jack:
Tonight, storm noise quite amazing, howling winds even though its a long way away.
Our news is showing lots of flooding and uprooted trees.
How are you blokes coping?
We lost power at MtCotton 11pm Friday night then evacuated to Mums at MtGravatt with all our cold/frozen food. Then lost power there at 8:30am. Power back on here now thank goodness 😅
Bobbie and I will check MtCotton tonight as I need a uniform and boots for work tomorrow morning.
Wind has eased off a lot but rain is steady so flooding will be happening soon I feel.
So lucky us. Just rain, 40k winds. All around us, horrendous damage. I heard Hervey Bay had 300mm in an hour.Good Luck with your house Chris🙏
Over 200mm at MtGravatt
Over 300mm at MtCotton
We've been for a drive to MtCotton and checked the integrity of the house etc.still no power so back to MtGravatt I'll cook prawn pad Thai tonight 😋😋😋
Mums happy for the company she's feeling quite lonely 😔
Glad to hear that Chris
Absolutely dodged a bullet here in Bracken Ridge. Moderately heavy rain not too bad, not too windy, not too much local flooding. I didn't even lose power.
No complaints from me, I got lucky.
Also lucky. Huge storm last night, missed us. Maleny 15 k west, Diamond Valley 10k nth, both 350mm, 150 here. Big numbers and still huge cloud coming sth.
