Ive not been here for a very long time, gave up biking over 10 years ago after a big scare rounding a bend that was awash with spilt diesel, somehow managed to stay upright but decided to quit whislt ahead!!
Anyroadup, after losing the love of my life, many visits/stays in hospital, heat-failure, now pacemaker, & other problems I have loads of time on my hands, thought id fancy riding one of the 2 1400s, ( & 8 other bikes )??.
So, a visit to my local insurance broker, resulted in 'Sorry no-one wants to insure you' !!
OK, try on line, same result, even Carol Nash whom I was with for many years.
Bike & car licence since 1963, never had a claim for anything, so im a bit miffed, never thought the day would come when I cant ride again.
Any ideas???
Gidday Lawrie!! Great to see you again. :onya: Sorry to hear about your loss & health issues though. I'm of no assistance on UK Insurance, maybe someone will know if anything can be done. As for riding them, if you can't ride on the road, what about a track or private area somewhere, take the bike (bikes) there on a trailer of some description? You probably have one built there . . .

I did a quick Google search and came across Bikesure Insurance (Bikesure.co.uk,0800 369 8580). They have a "60 plus scheme" for riders between 60 and 80 years, and also insure riders who have taken a break from riding for a few years.
I don't know what they're like, but it maybe worth contacting them.

Good luck with your search for insurance I know you have to have it to register the bike/bikes in UK.
I only own 1 GSX it's a 2001 model from new. 170,000+ kms to date. I'm using it as a commuter these days & riding my 2014 BMW R1200RT 184,000kms with my wife most weekends.
In Australia it's only compulsory to have 3rd party insurance which is built into our annual registration and is nonnegotiable and in my eyes is a complete ripoff 💩💩💩.
When I meet an older rider (I'm 64) so I mean 75+ I'm always in admiration and tell them they are my inspiration to ride as long as physically possible.
I've personally slowed down a lot, mostly because my wife loves being a pillion. Also I'm acutely aware we don't bounce if we hit the ground we tend to shatter lol 😂

Some insurance companies like it when you can prove you've done a rider training course. Not a track say, but an accredited rider training school, plus these places may be able to advise on insurance brokers? May bethe way back to road riding?

We have Shannon's & Swann Insurance here that are popular with bike enthusiasts plus the usual mobs ... I don't trust any of them but it's a necessary evil.

Nice to see a returning enthusiast, but sorry to hear of the hard times you've been having.
I hope you manage to get something sorted out and back on the road again, it could be the route back to your youth :)
As noted above, give Bemoto a try. I know Saga are the broker for older customers, but I don't know if they do bikes - nothing lost in making a call though?

Did the insurance companies give any specific reason? Was it age related or the fact you had not been riding continuously for the last 10 years? It might help the rest of us.
