Title: Haven’t been able to view site
Post by: MickyJB on Sunday, 15 December 2024, 01:57 PM
As the heading mentions .. it's been about a week of trying to access the site but the page just won't load up ..  message cannot find etc ... it's the exact same bookmark I've used previously.. previously I was sometimes getting a window with a virus protection alert and tick a box to prove not a robot .. today I've tried and page loaded up no problems.

Just me or has there been a glitch.

If that happens again @MickyJB re-type the URL and work down from the top again. I've sometimes had that happen when Microsoft do a major update and they've just made a major change to MS-Edge in the last release which although it didn't affect my GSX1400 Owners login, did affect some others which I had to reset. That's about all I can put it down to in all honesty.

Glad you've (clearly!) got access again!

Well this had been a weird one, I haven't been able to check in for a while, site just wouldn't load up. I messaged Eric and he said he wasn't having any issues. Tried and tried on different browsers, different devices BUT it wasn't until I turned my WIFI off And used the Telstra data it worked.

Appears my internet provider doesn't like GSX1400's 🥴🤷♂️

Mick, was this site the only thing that wouldn't work until you turned off WiFi & used Telstra data?

No big deal but if i use hands up emoji as Micky has, i also get question mark & male symbol after it. Any clues, only on this site. Weird.

I had a look, that emoji doesn't appear to be in the selection we have.  Where are you getting it from Grog / Micky?  I say this because it's different to the layout we use.

Our ones are preceded by 2 dots like these : then a word, eg hat, then 2 more dots :  You can click on the emoji above or you can write it yourself & it'll be the same, try it.  :hat:    :hat:  (one was written & the other selected from above - they come out the same)  When writing you see the dots & word, but when you post you see the emoji.

Yes ... and obviously I've snuck in again BUT I'm doing nothing different. Again I turned wifi off and the site logged in straight away, but I've been trying that a few times this arvo and that hasn't worked until this time. I'm liable to get out and not get back in again. I've tried deleting cache cookies, used different browsers, different phones and even the lap top with no luck .. until this time with wifi off

So all was working on the 4G network again so I tried using WIFI and site wouldn't load up. You would think it's an internet provider problem but I later I could try again with 4G and it's possible it won't work either.

Got me stuffed. 🤷♂️ :whatever:

What errors do you get when it doesn't work?

If it says '404 site not found' or something similar I'd suspect it's a DNS issue with your providers.

Yeah something similar .. takes a couple of minutes of nothing and then site not found , I'm on 4G now and obviously working but at times this doesn't even work.

I'll give the Internet provider a call

I had that for ages on 4G for a website I own, the hosting company refused to help & pretended the DNS was correct even though it obviously wasn't replicating properly. It's fixed now, several years later although they refuse to admit they did anything to solve it.

Example  .. I got an email alert Hooli replied .. I was on WiFi .. I was able to read the reply but to answer it I had to turn off wifi and use 4G .,

End of the World problem 😂😂

Mick, your wifi works fine all other sites? Not a firewall or anti virus tool blocking it? What happens if you just search 1400 site then try to log in?
Title: Re: Haven’t been able to view site

That screenshot looks more like routing or FW to me, if it was DNS it wouldn't have got far enough to wait for it to respond. I'd blame the ISP as a first guess.

@MickyJB

The error message you're encountering, "site can't be reached took too long to respond" with the error code ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT, typically indicates a problem connecting to a specific website or server. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check your internet connection: Ensure that your Wi-Fi is working properly and that you have a stable internet connection. Try accessing other websites to see if the issue is specific to a particular site or if you're unable to access any website.

Clear DNS cache: The DNS cache stores information about previously visited websites. Clearing it can sometimes resolve connection issues. Here's how to do it:
Open the Command Prompt on your computer (search for "cmd" in the Start menu).
Type the following command and press Enter: ipconfig /flushdns
Wait for the process to complete and then try accessing the website again.

Disable VPN or proxy: If you're using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) or a proxy server, try disabling it temporarily to see if it's causing the connection timeout issue. Some VPNs or proxies may restrict access to certain websites or introduce connectivity problems.

Temporarily disable firewall or antivirus: Your firewall or antivirus software could be blocking the connection to the website. Try disabling them temporarily and see if you can access the site. If the site loads successfully, you may need to adjust the settings of your firewall or antivirus to allow access.

Restart your networking equipment: Power off your modem/router and wait for about 30 seconds. Then, turn it back on and let it fully restart. This process can help resolve any temporary network glitches.

Try a different browser: If you're unable to access the site using Chrome, try using an alternative browser like Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge to see if the issue is browser-specific.

If none of these steps resolve the problem, it's possible that the issue lies with the website itself or with your internet service provider (ISP). In such cases, contacting your ISP or reaching out to the website's support team may provide further assistance.

There's also an article here which may help
https://au.siteground.com/kb/err_connection_timed_out/#How_to_Fix_err_connection_timed_out

(we don't use siteground but the principles are the same)

Thanks, it must be a iPhone issue, I have logged in ok with my iPad using the same ISP provider and wifi and here I am.

Tried numerous times with my iPhone connected to wifi and also 4g with no success.

I have altered some security settings on the iPhone but they take a hour to process, weird though because in the past I've had no issues logging in at all.

A search would find the site, but same problem every way I've tried, I've now accessed with my iPad straight up ... seems a glitch with the iPhone itself. The iPad works off the same ISP wifi ... phone won't even log in on 4G 😩

As in Chuck it against a Wall ?  :rofl2:

I'm not wanting to delete the stuff on my phone  :whatever:

At least I know I can check in on the iPad so it's not such a big deal as not being able to check out the site anywhere.

Fingers crossed no more issues

Thanks for advise etc.

Thought the magic had happened but last night and this morning it wouldn't log on anyway .. I did try my daughter's phone and it looked like it would work, got as far as username password and couldn't remember the password ... phoned my ISP and expect to hear from them later today. But I've tried to connect on again and worked on 4G but not Wifi .... ???  ???  :confused1:

So ..  ISP called and we went into the modem settings and checked DNS in and out and the settings were already as they should be changed to. So they told me to turn the modem off and reboot it (which I've done previously) and so far the site is connecting fine on WiFi on my iPhone ..

Fingers Crossed

Agree Col, time for a new one. You have tried hard reset? Its a basic maintenance action, otherwise new phone.

Mate I've tried everything I can think of ... it's so intermittent and haphazard it's difficult to work out what the problem is.

I guess so though it's still not a straightforward entry to the group. Most times I get a new page warning me, I disregard it and I get another page (see screenshot) I do the 'test' and I then get in.

Well that is most definitely an issue at your provider's end. The provider who hosts the forum doesn't use that particular service from that particular company.

Won't be long and I'll be giving the ISP the Flick .. heading away for 6 months and will be using Starlink.
