I have been wanting to upgrade my 14's horns for a while. Fibally bit the bullet and ordered a pair of PIAA Slender Horns (400Hz and 500Hz), having had a PIAA horn in a previous scooter.
Should have probably done more research. I was looking for horns with smaller dimensions compared to others (eg. FIAM Freeway Blaster), but didn't see a pic of the rear of the Slender Horns and just assumed that the black tabs sticking up were attached to the 'standard' bolt coming out the back of the horn (like the OEM ones and other aftermarket horns) and that these slender horns could be mounted in the stock position using said bolt.
However, turns out that in order to make the horn dimensions as small as possible, the bolt coming out the back only extends 3mm and the black metal tab is attached to the bolt with a very shallow nut (complete with warning written on tab not to adjust the nut in any way)!
Few issues and questions:
* connecting one horn to test = fine. Connecting two horns = no sound. I am a complete newb to electrical stuff, so any pointers would be most appreciated. From brief interweb reading, I may need a relay and/or wiring horn(s) direct to battery?
* due to the issue with the mounting method described above, I have temporarily attached the black tab to the stock mounting tab. Only one real position possible atm = new tab in line with stock tab and sticking almost straight out to the side, as pictured (otherwise either wires aren't long enough to connect or the plastic horn is half behind the radiator and touching on one corner, which I assume is a bad idea).
- best easy method of adding 3-5cm to horn wires to give me a bit more slack and flexibility of positioning?
- I could drill a hole in the stock mounting tab, closer to the bike and mount the horn in a similar way to it is now - wouldn't stick out to the side as far
- alaternatively, could I add a L-bracket to position the horn so the sticker/front is facing towards the side of the bike instead of forward?
From a pure sound POV, I would be OK with one OEM horn and the 500Hz Fiamm - sounds off with much greater authority and volume is plenty. The lack of symmetrical horns though would not be aesthetically pleasing.
Sounds like PIAA means pain in arse. I have chinese loud as train on mine, maybe 5 yrs, couple of extra paint coats, if you want link to them, no prob.
An idea for you. Denali Soundbomb Mini with a steel support; used to have an alu one but wagged a lot. Plug n play with the connections. Used to have this horn inside my Vespa fairing, stock was utter sh!t.Changed to this one and difference was huge. Sold the Vespa and installed on the GSX. Being on the outside sometimes folks have told me they think it´s a f@cking truck coming by! Only installed one on the left side, right side kept the stock also sounds.
Thanks @Jeykey for your idea.
Turns out I have once again proven that I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, especially when it comes to things like this, but I often get there in the end. Jeykey's suggestion made me immediately realise that I could remove the stock mounting support and bolt the new integrated mounting support directly to the frame!!
Installed that way now, much less wiggle and wag, sits much closer to the bike, but far enough away from the radiator not to be an issue - so all positives. Just need to remove that PIAMM sticker so that the black horn blends in more seamlessly. May still fashion a bracket in future, similar to the one Jeykey made, but this solution will do for now until I decide whether to do whatever is required to have two aftermarket horns working.
Thanks again @Jeykey
Here is a pic of the horn installed after removing the default mounting tab. Have gone on a few short rides and it is working well and staying put. :)

Looks fine. Sticks out a bit but at least doesn´t touch the radiator. Maybe your horn is bigger than mine that fitted just neatly between engine and radiator.
Just for completeness, here is a pic from the side of my new PIAA horn mounted.
Hope it doesn´t catch water turned sideways; if it does supposedly will resist.
I'm in a very similar situation at the moment with the same piaa twin horns.
Mine are mounted, but oriented so that is it rains, it'll get inside.
Mate,a cheap alternative, super deep & loud, couple of extra coats of paint, fit easily, looks blends in with bike. Mine have so far lasted years.Price is for pair, hi& low tone.
Price ~ as above. Smaller but louder. Long established brand.

Look good Andre.Hella respected brand here also.
I like them Andre
I like them too :smile2:
I did use the original mounting hardware. Can't remember why, but think because I like them closer in. Could also be a fitting matter. Or both?
Last night I mounted a pair of secondhand BMW 3 series Fiamm horns. Paid $18 for the pair from the wreckers. Cut the BMW wiring loom to snaffle the connectors. Bloody loud.
Because I'm a member of the Bay of Plenty BMW Owners club and they give me grief about buying a Beemer I told them I've
started collecting the bits for one.
After our 426 km ride today I was able to report to them that they still worked !!
I got into a Temu frazzle and couldn't help myself :frustrated: Horns in black is just one delivery coming to me ... :boogie:
Well they arrived and they feel robust but Crikey they are huge compared to the stock ones. I was hesitant to put them on they are so big but I thought it's only a bolt and two wire connections and they can be removed... So fitted them and bloody hell they are loud !!! Very impressed with the amount of noise they emit. They can stay on for a while.
Will be interesting to see the before and after gas mileage. HOW DARE YOU!!!! :happy1:

I'll let you know if I can hear them from my place Mick
Yeah a bit bigger, a lot louder, no probs from me fitting into bike looks.
