Title: Faulty ignition coil?
Post by: CraigOz on Friday, 19 July 2024, 10:47 AM
Hi everyone,

I have a misfire, or more to the point, non fire on cyl 4.

I checked the resistance on primary and secondary, primary is 2.2ohm (spec is 2-4ohm) and across the leads was 11.49 Kohm (spec 25-40 Kohms)

Before I race out and drop $220 on a new one, does anyone not concur with my thoughts that it's not serviceable?

2004 model

Thanks
Craig

Are you sure it's an electrical issue? Could it be a dirty injector?

You could try swapping Injectors 1-4 it's fairly straightforward to do and they are the 2 easiest to get to and see if the problem moves .
Check all the obvious things first like vacuum hoses to the throttle bodies before spending lots chasing an unknown fault .
Do all the easy checks first.

As i always say, basic tests first, have you actually tested spark or just guessing? Its your 1st step.

Yeah I'd test the spark first. They are dual coils so if the coil had failed then you'd lose two cylinders, pretty sure it's 1 & 4 on one coil, 2 & 3 on the other.

You can change the leads apparently if you pull them out hard enough to break the seal. The other end of the lead had rot & not connect to the plug cap, try cutting 5mm off it & screwing the plug cap back in.

Faulty plug? have you swapped them about to see if the fault follows a plug? You could do the same & swap the leads on 1 & 4 to see the fault follows that too. I think the plug caps can fail, that'd follow the lead as well.

As for buying new coils, what are you looking at for $220? as far as I know Suzuki haven't had any coils for these to sell for donkey's years. I'm sure others fit, a coil is hardly a unique thing to a 14 though.
