So today got more work on the blue/white yoshi bike and it was tome to seen if it started .
It fired right ip and sounds sweet but then what's all this smoke.
The upgraded oils line (rear single motor to head and cam link one) were absolutely chucking oil out .
So much for being bits for specialist companies that dont fit these will be put back to standard tomorrow .
Anyway after 5 years the yoshi bike lives kinda
That's a pisser Seth but at least you know the oil pump works. :)
Missed an o ring or two?
Congrats on firing up and running sweet :onya:
All gone well except those stupid oil lines. I reckon they spoil the look of a beautiful motor, so no loss. IMO only
B/W & Yoshi, nothing will catch that!

No they are aftermarket ones and the copper washers are too small and they hit the block so don't fully tighten up .
I'll refit the standard ones and all will be good 👍
So now turned into a complete nightmare as I found washers that work perfectly so the oil lines are now refitted .
But the final part was refitting the Y pipe and like and idiot (asnj was relived I'd got everything else back together)
I dropped a bolt down the hole Minto the oil gallery below the Y fitting .
I'm hoping nightmare can remove the clutch basket and get to the oil gallery and flush the bolt out .
If jot it's a complete motor out and strip to get it .
Unfortunately the bolt is stainless so I can't use a magnet 🫣😢
Omg mate I feel for you. It sounds exactly how my mechanical endeavours go :frustrated:
If you have a strong enough magnet it could pick up the bolt, stainless has some ferrite components in it, e.g if its 306 stainless. Feel for you mate, hope you get it sorted easily.
Get yourself one of THESE (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-277860-Flexible-Pick-Tool/dp/B000LFXQ00/ref=asc_df_B000LFXQ00/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=696352102731&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7539385913401050408&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007125&hvtargid=pla-422663572463&psc=1&mcid=ef02a935f4b038859b867d93cc3fee19&gad_source=1) before you start pulling motors.

Can you see the bolt Seth?
Quote from: grog on Tuesday, 02 July 2024, 04:14 PMCan you see the bolt Seth?
No it's down the hole and I can't get at it .
Racking my brain Mate. Only try i can think, an air vacuum brake bleeder/ sucker, maybe it can grab it ? Mine has a fair vac pull and tiny hose will go down hole🙏
Maybe a retrieval tool with a light on may work
@seth ?
Retrieval Tool with LED light (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/364980517303?itmmeta=01J1S7FYSEM7BX8AFD95MZFD1C&hash=item54fa88b9b7:g:s~MAAOSwK29mgW6Z&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0EQfdJll7KEe1pc2LSMAbQR%2Fm8egGaK9MT5Drp%2Fo%2FJ82hodEpe7QAWz625BsU1Gcx89HEgCL0Zl6lmos%2FiE1KpBsMkuBF6Zlzn%2BtaN1pVYcF9M8arOAWTG7oRaSffm21wnrB8dW40Ses7I8bUB4g7DyqbJMqiLyUxbMWPLb%2Bt4Aoz8XhjPsG0fTXJXz0zQm%2BL8P9FE7lu3P9F7swvpxGs0t7P5zqca7JOu3rkfcWU9bD%2Bnqr3zxr8d9ccr1b3OWKgTAsnlye6YIG0SZkYrrZTxQ%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-jsv6eOZA)
Or just stop being a clumsy clot?
Sounds like one of those nightmare moments we all have to me.
I have one of those Barmy, saved my arse many times. Seth, i have a bore scope camera, goes down plug hole, maybe borrow one, they show lots.

First I would try locating it with a bore-scope.
May also use double-sided sticky tape rapped around a wire to catch it.
If you can't grab the bolt, might be able to drop it into the sump if there is enough passage for it.
Exactly Andre, needs finding first. Is it in oil, is it just lodged? If it can be found, bore scope, then maybe some loctite on probe, let it set on bolt, tough one.
So found 2 rare earth magnets at work small and strong enough to lift the bolt (tried it on the other bolt and if it can touch it it will lift not out)
If that doesn't work I've a clutch holding tool coming as the oil gallery it's in is behind the clutch basket and I've also ordered a enderscope with a light and a grabber tool.
If I can see it I'll get it .
Thanks @hooli I felt a right idiot when I watched it drop .
Thanks for all the info and advice.
I'll let you know how it goes as I really don't want to have to remover the motor .
I'm not sure on the layout of the oil galleries, but would removing the oil temp sensor give you more access to poke around too?
So finally a break on this build
I found 2 tiny rare earth magnets at work and luckily they were strong enough to grip the bolt and I got it out of the motor .
The top of the engine is now fully sorted .
Just the clutch to rebuild as I found a broken plate when I took it apart .
Other than that it might just be ready for an mot later in the week .
Nice one Matey.
I knew you could do it !! :boogie2: Plus you got all the tools now for the next time you do it ! :coffeescreen: :smitten:
D.D.
Good on ya Seth, well done!
Great result👍
Awesome Seth, great result mate
Handy to have found the broken plate then, so worth it.

It was like the bike was trying to tell me .
Never heard of clutch problems at 52k miles though 🤔
The metal plates are a little blue but bit suspect it's just from lack of use .
Makes you wonder how the plate broke, ever seen one do that.

I've never heard of any breaking .
I have a spare so that will get fitted .
Broken clutch plate compared to motor out, so bloody lucky Seth. Once did head on Daughters twin cam Corolla, all good until i dropped 10mm bolt. Spent 2 hrs looking/wondering. I thought head off again, workmate walked in, whats goin on, should be finished. told him the story, he reached down, behind rhf tyre, that frigging bolt. Is this it he said. :boogie:
Don't blame yourself Grog, it wasn't your fault, it's the Martians, they take things (off a workbench etc) and when you go to get it it's gone, nowhere to be found, only to reappear in plain sight later, sometimes they put it back the following day, cos there it is & it wasn't there yesterday . . .
It's pesky pixsies...
I don't know why we worry, I dropped a bolt onto my CBR engine, and while I was looking for it, I found the tank fixing bolt the PO had left wedged in there.. :happy1:
D.D.
Over a year after I'd dropped a front tank rubber off my 14, it appeared on the floor in the middle of the garage where I'd have seen it right away when I looked around for it.

Spooky Mate. Mind you it does indicate that you don't hoover enough. :coffeescreen:

Vacuum the garage? are you some sort of pervert?
I do the house annually, if it needs it or not.
Unfortunately, forum rules do not allow me to show you what I'm wearing.

Getting there.

Ahh see that's where I'm more organised. The Aerosport 40, Hi-summink glider & half built PSS F-4 are in the loft even though I've not used them for around 29 years.
