Evening chaps, I've finally been out on my bike for an hour and have noticed that she has a strong vibration around the 4.5k area and has a bit of a weavey wobble that feels very strange and un-nerving at about 80ish, does anyone have any idea's on this. I've checked the chain and it's adjusted correctly, tyre pressures are good
and the tyres are new so not got any flatspot's. All sugestions welcome.
Tony.
Head bearings ?
Swingarm bearings ?
Wheel bearings (front and back) ?
Check the subframe as mine cracked ?
Front removable frame rail lose or corroded ?
Front sprocket lose ?
Tony, just an odd one to add, you say the tires are new & correct pressure, did the bike do this before the new tires were fitted? if no, then I'd be looking into the tire side of things.
Possibly (not really likely, but can happen) the new tire has a defect & is delaminating at speed.
Wheel nut not done up properly
Wheels badly out of balance
Tell us a bit more about the vibration, is it synchronous with the engine revs or bike speed ie wheel speed?
I will need to take her out again later this week as I'm busy tomorrow all day (Birthday drinks) but I'll try and gat more info asap.
Mate had new PR4 fitted back last week to his 14, been complaining since about vibration at around 120kmh, not far from 80mph. Seems that the tyre is faulty. It has some deformation in it, just not symmetrical. Was refitted and balanced, didn't help. Take a look at your's, might be a bad tyre.
Last time I had a PR4, it was a PR4 Gt & delaminated & fell apart 1,200 miles down the road. Nice to know they've not changed the quality.

I've run the Michelin PR (now Road) series on the 1400 from after the original tyres to now without a problem. That's quite a few sets... I do recall not liking the PR3s and PR4s as much as the other variants, but mainly due to front tyre wear.
Just how old was the PR4 your mate fitted DD? I haven't seen them for a while - the Road 5 has been out since 2018 so maybe an old tyre?
Not me, I use Pirelli angel st's, it was DTTW.

Slightly off subject, which tyre do you wear out first? Always front by a fair bit from me.
Back in the day it was two rears to one front(hard acceleration, burn outs etc) but now I reckon, not doing the mileage, it will be about even, and I'll change them in pairs.
D.D.
Depends on the bike but I usually get 2 rears to one front.
My front is usually the one to go first, replace as a set.
1 1/2 rears to a front for me, seemingly on every bike. I change them in pairs now days as the bike rides better that way.
Better deals for pairs as well :boogie2:

I've decided to look at things I've done to the bike since the vibrations began, I've bought a wheel balancer to re-do the balancing and check the wheel isn't bent out of shape, check those new tyres front and back and also change the fork oil as I went with 10w not 5w as the book says. After that it's a case of check every nut and bolt until I find out what the cause is.

There is a thread here that barmy (I think though it could have been someone else) all about fork oil and how one manufacturers 5w is totally different to others and that the same across all manufacturers (think there's even a chart)
So before saying you put the wrong stuff in you know if the original oil's grade was closer far away from what's in it now.
Separately I remember folk have vibration issues years ago and the way they fixed them was to support motor lossen all the engine mount bolts lift/jack up the engine very slightly and then retightened all the engine mount bolts so the bolts are in the centre of the mount plates/holes rather than all the engine weight being at the bottom of them and making it easier to transfer the vibrations from the engine to the bike .

Dated W20/23. So new tire. I have always used PR's, 3's, 4's and now currently running on fifth generation. Never had an issue.
Have you checked the balancer shaft to make sure it's tight?
Is the balancer shaft engine related part because that's the only balancer shaft I can think of?
Yes, it's the crank balancer.
