Title: Slightly peeved
Post by: lawrie on Monday, 20 March 2017, 12:28 AM
One has found oneself slightly 'peeved' , this morning I went to 'do' a start-up on the bikes,
(every now & then to keep em running )
One of the 1400s, wouldn't have it, flat batt, took it out & checked it over, bit of bulging by one cell,
measured it,  7v,

BLOODY-HELL!!  Its only 15 years old, the original that was on the bike when I bought it new back in '02.

Plus, on top of all that,  the bloody dealer has long gone, so s refund looks out of the question. :cry2:

New Motobatt ordered.

I assume the comment was meant tongue-in-cheek, you didn't seriously expect a refund on a battery that's buggered after 15 years?

Think I'd be peeved as well Lawrie, a letter to The Times would not be inappropriate under the circumstances!  :rofl3:

Sunday Post reply: Re warranty claim.
As you were aware at the time of taking delivery no warranty was expressed or implied.
We have found that in some models the default setting has been known to malfunction.
Furthermore upon later investigation the model you took ownership of was found to have been an ex-demo, well used, and nearly passed its use by date.
We are very pleased to hear you are more than happy with your later model replacement.   :)

Dear lonely hearts column, my wife has left me, my bike battery is stuffed. seems they both lost their energy. at least the battery didnt explode, was a wife habit only. at least i can buy a sealed battery, not sure on new wife.

15 years is bloody good, I have sold two bikes with 11 year old batteries in them and they were working fine.  On the other hand the Triumph Tigers seem to eat batteries, quite a few lads on the forum are changing them at 2 years and I don't think anyone is on an original and they have only been going 10 years.  That's progress for ya.

Ha ha, some of the above comments reminded me of that old joke that went something like this:

Dear Sunday Post, whilst out for a ride on my 1400 today, the battery gave up the ghost after only 15 ys of use, so I came home early, no-one around so I went upstairs only to find my wife in bed with my beast pal, this, as you can imagine,  totally freaked me out & I had to get out of there & found comfort in the garage with the bike, boy was I in a state, pacing up & down, knocking back the booze, it was driving me nuts, I just don't know what to do next, I mean, do I go for an AGM battery or one of those new lithium-iron jobbies.

Yours,  worried of Yorks.

Every bike I've ever brought, which is only five, has needed a new battery within days.

I too have now found the limit of my battery life.

It played up on the day I went to meet a few others at the NMN and yesterday it missed out on its turn out of the garage due to refusing to start.

Thirteen and a half years from new though, I can't really complain.

Same again please.....
