Title: Shiney bits!
Post by: Idh on Thursday, 18 April 2024, 06:28 AM
Evening all.

Can anyone confirm the finish on the brightwork and the sides of the engine please?

Is it just bare metal with a lacquer over it? Mine seem to be scratched.

Assume I can chemically remove lacquer, clean and re coat?

Yes, it is bare metal with lacquer over it. The chemicals for this job available to Jo-public here (Germany) are to weak and I would worry about damaging the paint of the cylinder head with it. Also putting new lacquer over it will likely lead to the same result in a few years. So I sanded and polished it. Treading it once or twice a year with Autosol Aluminum polish, or something akin to it, keeps it shiny.
