Hey all just wondering I need new tyres on my 1400 what do people think of the Angle GT-2's ?
My local Bike shop have them in stock for $590aud fitted so $3.50usd lol, Or should I go something else ?
Cheers.
Just had a look here (NZ) & we can get them for $598 but have to fit them yourself. Few places are much dearer than $598 though, into the high 6's.
@grog is the man to ask about Angles, he loves 'em. Horses for courses, some folk like them & others don't, personally, I have Angels on the Black K6 & Road 6's on the Blue K6, I don't mind either.
Know nothing about Angel 2 on my 3rd set of Angel GT original, no complaints, last & grip good enough for me. Around $100 set diff between them. Mate had 2s on MT10,never heard him say bad about them.
Thanx Grog got it booked in for tomorrow but thought I'd just see what thoughts where before then..
Thanx Col, I guess I'll give them a go, They will be a 100x better than the 10+yr old ones on there :embarassed:
Yetiman enjoy, It will feel like a new bike with those new boots on :onya:
Agree, 10 yrs old a bit long. Pirellis like pressure up,36,38 i use.
36-38psi Thanx Grog
Cheers Kiwi.
I really rate the pirelli angel gt2's as great in wet or dry and they last really well the back still stays round it they are very old .I get 8000 miles a set easily
Also like the Michelin road 5 (I assume the 6's are just as good if not better)
I really really hated the metzelar roadtec se 01 (worst tyres I've had fitted in 30 years to any bike)
I use Halford's engine oil only because the previous owner used it.

My k5 had 12 year old tyres on it when I got it and they were fine in the dry.
Then we hit a small shower of rain and the bike became almost unrideable and I had to fight to keep it on the road at well below the speedlimit speeds .
Anything that's been sitting or older I'd just change them
And don't forget there is A and B spec to choose from.
Yeah I got them fitted today I took the wheels in so haven't ridden on them yet Bikes back together so might get a ride in tomorrow,
Yes the A is for a Heavey bike..

What didn't you like about the Roadtecs?
I had the Roadtec01 on my VFR800 and they stuck like glue no matter the conditions. Really comfortable tyres. From brand new, I was able to push hard through corners, no waiting with a 200klm break in etc.
Conversely, when I fitted Angel GT's on my VFR and the 1400, they caused me to nearly need a change of pants at the first corner. Felt like the whole bike was going to wipe out from underneath me and I was only going 40 around the first corner after being fitted.. Took about 400klms for the tyres to get any grip in them. Also noted that whilst the Roadtec was very comfortable, with the same suspension settings and the Angel GT, the suspension felt like there was no give in it and was as rough as I had ever experienced. Had to do a lot of adjustment to get comfort back with handling - but never quite got to the level the Roadtec allowed. Once broken in the Angels were good, but at times, they gave me some but puckering moments in the wet and dry.. the rear has flattened off and the front has a centre flat spot as well as the sides becoming flat as well. have about 10 thousand kays on them.. This is all two up riding with the wife on the back (about 50kg) my ride is through the Oxley ranges - which for those in Australia would know, is an extremely winding mountain road - 300+ corners.
The 1400 is due for new tyres now, but we are heading into winter, so won't be riding much.. I'll wait for spring and repalce them.. was going to put on a set of the new Roadtec 02. But I'd be interested in your thoughts on the Roadtec01SE, Seth..
I don't want to butt in on your & Seths comments on the Roadtec Bluey, but the difference could be the ambient temperature difference of your riding place compared to Seths. Aussie is known as a tad warmer than Norf UK, specially in summer.
2c worth from across the ditch.
Metzler v Pirelli comments interesting. Both designed/ manufactured by Pirelli
I had Roadtec 01s once. Great winter tyre as they seemed to work well in the cold & wet, heavy to turn though (but not as bad as Slipstones) and didn't last.
I used them on the GSX1400 and my K1600. Good grip wet or dry, held its shape well and lasted a good distance.

I hated them mate worst tyre I've ever fitted gave no confidence for me in the wet .

As you know I live in Scotland (about half way up)
I know folm who liked them and live in Europe where its normally warmer then here .
For my they just gave no confidence.
I swapped to a pair of buses pirelli angel gt2's for a Europe trip they transformed my bike (loads better)
And put them back on my return (loads worse again) and when I fitted a set of Michelin road5"s the bike was back to its best again .
Just my thoughts with them
Took the bike for a first ride on the GT2's around 50kms or so and they felt great I just cruised with a few spurt's Love them so far, Btw I put the 190/55 on the back I like it..
Well done Mate,i doubt youll fault them. On my originals, 18 th k front, 24 k rear, good value.Yours sim or better.
Thanx Grog just got to get out and go for a real ride...Maybe down to Kiama for a Coffee.
While your at Kiama you could scrub them in doing Saddleback - Jamberoo - Macquarie Pass.
Yeah I live in Bowral area so go though Robinson Jamberoo to Kiama great ride.
I'm having Angel GT2s fitted next week, ordered at a local workshop in Chipping Campden. I could have got them slightly cheaper at Wheel House in Coleshill, but it's nice to support the local guy.
My current expiring set of Pilot Road2s lasted 8,000 miles. Very happy with them, but decided to go Pirelli this time.
If any of you are in the area, i really recommend Koti- Auto-Italia, just outside Chipping Campden on the road to Shipston. Cafe and shop only open at weekends atm, but but probably go to 6 days fairly soon.

It was buzzing today, i probably saw up to 50 different bikes dropping in and every rider chilled and chatted outside. Inside there are old bikes, a workshop and a hot drinks counter that sells extremely good coffee. Outside there's sufficient parking, as well as a burger van. Ben, the proprietor, spent loads of time chatting outside with customers.

I'll have fun scrubbing in these GT2's.

Is that a mash ?
Have you had any problems with it as my mate has one and its been a nightmare in the shop more than on the road !
That looks fun, what is it?
As Seth mentioned it is a Mash 650 X Ride.
A mate owns it gave it to me to test ride as he doesn't ride anymore, It's 2021 and only has 632 miles on it, hardly been ridden since road tyres went on.
No problems with it in the short time usage I've only rode it about 1 mile but like the feel of it.
It's a French company bikes are built in China based on the XT500 of coarse and the motor is a copy of the Honda Dominator.
I have read reports of some problems with them but I have also read reasonably good reviews.
Time will tell.
I do know I'll be happy with the tyres as I've had about 5 sets on my 1400's.
Ah, I'd missed Seth's reply.
I could be in trouble I just realised the tyres are ST'S.
Quote from: Irish in Oz on Thursday, 09 May 2024, 01:29 AMI could be in trouble I just realised the tyres are ST'S.
Tyres will be fine I used to use St's on my 14 for a few years without any problems the new tyres just last better for longer lol
My mate still uses St's on his xjr1300 and just had a new set last month
I have ST's on my bike and they're fine, no issues at all.

I have them on two of mine, just bought a CBR1000fL with them on. Bonus in my book..

The can of worms that is tyre choice
I used to use Pirelli's because I got a decent discount knowing the importer. I also tried Metzlers, Dunlop and Bridgestones. Never used any of the supercheap chinesium brands.
However their lifespans were never very long for my style of riding.
I got a massive discount on a set of Pilots when the fours launched so gave them a try.
I've never gone back to Pirelli or any other.
I'd sooner pay full price and have GRIP wet/dry and Longevity.
Just my two cents worth 👍
Confidence in your tyre choice and use is as varied as opinion on them.

There was a £30.00 difference between Road6's and GT2's and i went for the Pirelli's. So far they're impressing.
Chris, i was opposite to you, had Pilot 3, switched to Pirelli, vast improvement i thought.Funny how we all have different preferences 👍
Well one thing's for sure. The road 6's are a dam fine looking tyre. I think I'm with Chris, I'll be going Michi's from now on. After all, you gotta have something to throw your dough away at. It's one of my hobbies, throwing my dough away, I'm very good at it if I do say so.
Road 5 for me. It's the right tire for my riding. Love 'em. GT 2 and Road 6 both 45€ more.
Think theyre all very good these days. We dont get to test/try so once fitted, stuck with them. Some of the ones back in old days, not sure how we stayed on. Dunlop Elite&Michelin A49, my worst. At least old K81 were predictable, not the two i just mentioned.

I didn't go with the Michelins, i went with the GT2s.
