Title: Less Annoyance, more Privacy, and Security
Post by: Andre on Friday, 23 February 2024, 02:24 AM
For Chrome and Firefox (should also work for derivates of these browsers):

A) Set strict Tracking Protection

Chrome
Settings --> Privacy and security --> Security --> select 'Enhanced protection'

Firefox
Settings --> Privacy and security --> Enhanced Tracking Protection --> select 'Strict'

B) Use a browser extension

I use uBlock Origin. Among others, it contains Adguard filters.

For use of other than the default filters see: Recommended Filters for uBlock Origin (http://recommended%20filters%20for%20ublock%20origin)

C) HTTPS-Only Mode

For Chrome:

Settings --> Privacy and security --> Security --> Always use secure connections --> slider to the right (to on).

For Firefox:

Settings --> Privacy and Security -->  scroll down to 'HTTPS-Only Mode' --> Select 'Enable HTTPS-Only Mode in all windows'

D) DNS over HTTPS

For Chrome:

Settings --> Privacy and security --> Security --> Encrypt the names of sites you visit --> slider to the right --> Select DNS provider --> Select 'Ad custom DNS provider' from the dropdown-list --> Enter 'https://dns.quad9.net/dns-query'

For Firefox:

Settings --> Privacy and Security --> scroll down to'DNS over HTTPS' --> Select 'Max Protection' --> 'Choose provider:' --> select Custom from the dropdown-list  --> Enter 'https://dns.quad9.net/dns-query'

OR

Get a free (free should be more than enough for a normal user) NextDNS account. Has tons of privacy functions and customizability. What to put in the above 'Custom' field depends on your profile(s) ID(s). You get this under your NextDNS profile page (multiple profiles can be set up).

NextDNS (https://nextdns.io/)

E) For Firefox only

If you don't use Firefox yet, you may consider using it.

To set up Firefox for a more secure and fast experience go to:

Betterfox (https://github.com/yokoffing/Betterfox)

This is the same guy from which the recommendations for uBlock filters (see begin of this post) come.
