Title: Movement in speedo and tach housing
Post by: Tye59 on Friday, 20 October 2023, 08:08 PM
Hi,, I am a new member here so hello, I have just purchased a 2003 k2 model, and had a wonderful experience riding it home from Maidenhead, so good in fact all though blue with cold I couldn't bring myself to stop 150 miles, my question is there is quite a bit of movement in the dials housing, is this normal and if not could anyone shed some light on how to rectify it, many thanks in advance if anyone is able to help 👍

Short answer no it's not.

They move a little bit as they are rubber mounted, but only enough to reduce vibration.

There's two allen bolts under the top yoke that hold the bracket on & can come loose. You'll probably need to take the headlight bowl off for access unless your hands are smaller than mine.

If it's not them, then remove the clocks & take the back off (about 6 screws) then you'll see where the bracket fits to the clock housing. From memory it's just clips & rubber bungs. You can glue the plastics if broken but need a special primer for superglue to work. I've got a link to it somewhere & I think it's probably on here somewhere too.

I made a mistake in that. It's 2 screws to take the chrome back off. It's 6 screws for the black plastic clock case inside

Firstly congratulations and welcome to the nuthouse mate.
We all love pictures of bikes too, if you're technologically able of course @Vlad
Perhaps you're just not used to the motorcycle and her many minor movements. Yes the clocks are rubber mounted and yes they vibrate.
You'll probably find many other things doing similar movements once you've ridden a few more miles.

Hi, and many thanks to all that helped very much appreciated, I am from Bridgend, South Wales, and after not riding for 40 years decided to get back into it, so last November I took my test bought a strom 650,sold that for a versys 650, wanted something a little bigger as well, so last week I bought my 2003 14 from a chap in Maidenhead, will post a few pics in the weeks to come, thank you for the welcome.

Here are some snaps the seller used I've not taken any myself yet, she's a 2003 k2 model I'm told, lovely condition only 8400 miles on her.
