Title: K2 or K6
Post by: Coopz on Saturday, 07 October 2023, 08:30 PM
Hey have a weird issue. I'm looking at buying a 1400. Haven't had one for 10+ years but I was about to buy a K6 black one with 40k on it off a mates uncle. Clean machine, he does want 8k (au) for it. Then I saw a blue K2 for sale locally, it's done 50k but it's nearly 3k cheaper in excellent condition.

Just wondering if the slightly newer bike is a better buy or is there little difference? The second gear issue is the main fear I have with the K2 model or am I just been paranoid? I'm. Not that worried about the mileage as I know the engines last.

My k2 gear problem happened at around 30k miles (i did ride like a twat lol)
The k6 has all the corrosion issues of the other years but most of the common problems have been fixed .
Also the fork internals have been upgraded feom the k5 onward too .

I had the 2nd gear issue with my K3 for a few years, just didn't use 2nd gear ... I eventually bought a later gearbox and fitted that, with no problems since (now 103k miles).

As far as I remember the 2nd gear issue can be sorted by undercutting the gearwheel.

End of the day, is 3k enough of a saving to potentially offset the cost of getting the gears sorted (it might never be a problem)!

Enjoy, whichever one you go for  :hat:

All the best ... Barry

In the early 2000's I used to ride extremely hard 😈😈🤡 I had to do second gear twice. First time 2003 I replaced the gear then when it did f..k up again 2005 I had gear undercut and I've never had another problem plus I'm a lot more chilled riding these days 🥶

Thanks, it's got the original light as well, I'll probably reinstall it, I like the dual bug eyes but the original looks cleaner.
