Title: K7 Header pipes on K3?
Post by: Xdiavel on Monday, 28 August 2023, 08:43 PM
Hi all,

I am new to the gsx 1400 and picked a nice 7k mile example up last week but one of the downpipes is damaged and not willing to pay £250 per pipe from Suzuki. My question is does the k7 downpipes fit the k3 as just purchased some second hand ones  but after looking into this more I see there are some difference ie chrome & Stainless. Collector box is fine so hoping they just fit??

Also is the inner diameter better  on the K7 ones?

Kind Regards

Lee

All down pipes fit all years .
The early ones are chrome and later ones stainless
Very little difference between internal diameters and makes know difference to power.
Also both 4-1(later) and 4-2(earlier) collectors will fit all years of downpipes.
Good luck

Also its good to head to the bar and introduce yourself.

Yep my thoughts exactly Seth.
Please introduce yourself and you'll get plenty of responses after that. 🙏🙏
Pics of your bike wouldn't go astray either 👍👍😎😎

K7 and K3 header pipes are interchangeable but the stainless ones are under bent by about 2 degrees which means the twin collector points downward when assembled. If you bolt the collector to the engine then the pipes don't sit square at the manifold so exhaust leaks can occur.

All pipes from Nos 1 to 4 in both chrome and stainless were paired for comparison of the angle differences with similar results. The chrome pipes are the one wrapped for protection. I think the example pipes are from No.2 cylinder.
The datum for measuring was where the pipe enters the collector up to the stop ring. At the header end a parallel was placed against the pipe at the end of the parallel so we now have a reference for the chrome pipe. The stainless pipe was placed at the datum point but look at the difference in angle.
