Title: What mods you wish you would not have done?
Post by: DTTW on Friday, 11 August 2023, 05:52 AM
Time goes on and people change, so do their bikes. I've had my 14 for 10 years or 11 (riding) seasons as we count here in Finland and during that time I've done couple of modifications on it that I probably would not do anymore. Let's list it up, not in any particular order.

1. Foot pegs. I installed billet foot pegs some years ago mainly for the looks but ended up putting the stock ones back recently for added comfort. I still liked the option to set the billet ones lower than the stock ones though.
2. Xenon/HID head light. Back in 2013 xenon was the way to go if one wanted to update the headlight. The system was quite complicated vs. today's LED's, which are almost plug and play. HIDs had ballasts and other stuff. I probably should have waited for few years them LEDs to take over the market.
3. Removal of PAIR system. Can't remember anymore why I removed it, but it is removed. Probably could have lived with it being in place, as designed by Mr.Suzuki.
4. 17 teeth front sprocket. For me, I really could not tell that big of a difference acceleration wise, but did not like the bike revving higher when doing highways etc. Now back in stock gearing.
5. Getting Yoshi exhaust system instead of Akra. I've got the full Akra, but prefer the looks and sound of my mates full Yoshi system.
6. Modifying the original air filter box to add extra filters in hope of more horse power when I got Yoshi cams installed. I really dislike that the air box was cut and got installed with some filter material wich needs maintenance or replacing. Just was not worth it as I understood later that the stock filter would have been good way beyond the numbers the engine is currently producing...

Something else probably, just doesn't come to mind ATM. What are your mods you wish you haven't done?

About the only mod I did I shouldn't have done was a HID light. The heat of it damaged the reflector, so when I went LED I still had to get a good headlight for a decent beam pattern. Originally the HID was great, but it caused a dull spot on the reflector that gave a gap in the beam straight in front of the bike.

DTTW, not a lot really in 12 yrs. I tried many LED globes, none any good, went back to halogen, maybe full insert wouldve worked. Tried 3 diff mufflers, Yoshi far away best. Tried Michy tyres, didnt like, find Pirellis far better. Tried EBC pads in rear, noisy, no good for me. Motobatt was a total failure. MCN settings for forks total crap, took to suspension bloke who fixed. Most everything else has been good. Rebuild of rear shocks also a good move. RK chain was no good, link seized, think that was because using Wurth spray lube, no good i reckon, gear oil much better. A pretty good result really in all those ks.

I cant stress this enough !!
There are LEWD's and there are LED's
Mine were expensive and MOT complient! (UK)
Mine are infinitely better than the Halogen bulbs and consume far less power..
The ones I haver in my Bike I also have in my car..
Both pass the UK MOT test wishout issue..
Cheap crap Chinese LED's with around 10 or even 20 LED chips are CRAP!
You have to but an LED that accurately emulates the standard H4 Halogen bulb (which mine does)..

Each to their own.

Add me to the HID was a mistake list.  Failed on me while riding at night which was... not fun.
