Post by: grog on Wednesday, 02 August 2023, 06:36 PM
Quiet on the bike front so just wondering. Obviously we listen to lots of UK music, does any of you blokes up there listen to any Oz music?

TBH I don't know where most music comes from, I just like the tune or not.

Don't know much about Oz music but I do like AC/DC and Jimmy Barnes.  Any more like them?
I listen to about 4 hours of music every day and am always looking to widen my catalogue.

AC/DC are a great band (as most of em where born in the UK   )  but we all know the best music is British  :boogie:   :boogie2:   :stir:   :whistling:

I'm sure there are plenty of up and coming bands. Unfortunately with shows like the Voice the young ones think they can just step in to the limelight without the effort 🤯

Jet's first album was great, as was Wolfmother's. I still occasionally play them.

I'm always listening to:
'Barnsey' (Jimmy)
Midnight Oil
Jet
Wolfmother
ACDC
Hoodoo Gurus
Men at Work
LRB

Etc

These bands still get a lot of radio airplay, and on Australia Day (26th Jan) they only play Oz music all day long

Notty, mid 80s was at a local muso night in small hall. Guess who got up out of audience and did one song. She sure could sing. Far better live than recordings.

My favorite Aussie bands/singers - in no particular order.
A good starting point for you.  YouTube is your friend.

For some I've included possibly their most famous 'song' in quotes.

INXS
The Divinyls  (Chrissy Amphlett had such a unique voice. R.I.P.)
The Church  "Under the Milky Way"
Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds
The Atlantics (Surf Instrumentals) "Bombora" (but "Rumble and Run" is better)
Cold Chisel / Jimmy Barnes
Midnight Oil
Icehouse
AC/DC
The Living End.  "All Torn Down"
The Angels  "Am I ever going to see your face again".
Paul Kelly
The Cruel Sea "Better Get a Lawyer Son"
Redgum /  John Schumann  "I was Only 19"
Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs "Some people I know think that I'm crazy"
The Saints  "Stranded"
Skyhooks

We also like to claim Crowded House (although they are really from NZ)

MMM Rock station rocks

Well -- it rocks me the wrong way!!!

Why?

1. Their website uses a digital fingerprinter. :furious:  A digital fingerprint is used to identify you on the net. Not a nice behavior of any website -- in this case it is a russion fingerprinter from yandex.ru

They also use:

.auto-messenger.ru  :jack:

.radiosolo.ru  :jack:

Lived in Oz in 81-82 we were so spoiled for great local music. Some great bands on your list Vlad, add 'Men at Work' too.

Grog,

I consider my life private.

There are simple things to increase privacy (and annoyance) on the Internet.

Easy ones all done in Browser settings:

Use a browser extension: ublock origin
Only allow https
Set strict Tracking Protection
Enable secure DNS  (choose NextDNS or Cloudflare).

Lots more, but the above gets rid of most of the crap. Less annoyance. Mate of mine has thanked me a dozen times for not getting all the ads on YT anymore.
