Title: Ahh bugger!
Post by: Batkwaka on Saturday, 22 July 2023, 04:46 PM
Travelling in between lessons today and a car has pulled out in front of me, hopefully I can salvage the big girl.

Batty, thats terrible, hope your ok. How the hell did forks manage to bend that way?Usually opposite way. How you feeling is main concern.

Forks were cactus so the photo is after being moved carefully (by chance) by a fellow Numduc rally attendant whose towing business "Cameltow", took the pictures and graciously sent them to me.
It was about a 40kph impact, side on, just behind his front wheel. Travelling East on Abernathy Rd from Belmont.
Myself finally has the sympathy of Mrs Bat for probably 24 hours, an ice pack on my right groin, a prescription for some anti inflammatory tablets and a couple of days off before I sort the mess out.
An exciting day but somewhat difficult.

Bugger, that's a right crap thing to happen.

On the bright side the forks n yokes seem to bend before the frame so you might be ok.

That's a real bummer, I'm glad you are okay and I hope you get the bike back on the road.  Can you claim it all off the other chaps (Or Chapes / or other) insurance?

That's some serious damage it will definitely require frame straightening when all that force is on headstock 👍
Hopefully insurance doesn't write it off 💩💩💩
Glad you're not seriously injured.
A few years ago Ingo had a prang and damaged his knee very badly.
Not sure if he's still a member, but shout out if you are mate.

So here we are at the end of the line for the GSX1400SE. 12 years, 100k/km, Rallies, 11.6 sec 1/4 mile, some track day fun, a show pony and cruise machine ending in a momentary lapse of judgement.

The insurance payout came today $10000 Australian and I have decided on the GSX-S8 Suzuki to replace my old Beast. Strangely enough from my business perspective, it is the best thing that could have happened. I never would have sold the GSX1400 and I received top value for it, whilst the replacement bike has a direct benefit to my R Class (open motorcycle) licence training. I would rather Karma gave me a winning lottery ticket but take what you can get.

Whilst the bike has been declared a Statutory Write-off  the broken forks slid out and a new set fit straight in so for all intents and purposes it is straight as a die. Sadly it will never see registration again though.

Lastly, as this Forum is one of the few that isn't full of Tosspockets and Heroes I will be sticking around for the stimulating conversation, although at half the capacity and cylinders now, I may have to change the name to Mini-Me.

Always sad to see a bike you've had so many memories go ... although I'll rebuild my K3 with a K6 frame, I'm sad to see the K3 frame go (although I'll probably keep it for sentimental purposes).

It too started off it's life with me with snapped forks, new set of forks and billet yokes and it began it's journey with me.

Hope you enjoy the new bike, even if it is possibly one of the ugliest things ever created  :happy1:

All the best ... Barry

Hence they park them next to the Hayabusa so by comparison the old Eye-abuser is starting to look pretty good, marketing geniuses at Suzuki I tell ya!

Yeah good result on the payout but I'd be devvo if I didn't have a 1400.

Glad to hear you are sticking around.  Heck if barmy does, anyone can
