Title: LED headlights
Post by: Hooli on Thursday, 29 June 2023, 06:59 PM
I know we've done this before but I can't find it.

I had the Allight V18 Turbo LED lights that Barmy recommended for years. They are excellent bright lights with a good beam pattern but one has finally died so I want to replace it. I've tried a few other LED lights & although I've got one that works, it gives out sod all light compared to the V18s. I've had to send a few back too as they didn't even get a remotely legal or safe beam pattern.

So does anyone know where to get what I had before or some others that actually work?

I had to piss about with the V18s, bend it to a slightly different shape & so on.

Just thought I'd look at complete lamps, with stuff like this about is it worth trying more bulbs?

£21 for a complete lamp, if the specs are even vaguely right it'll be excellent.

What steve said.  Pretty much the same as the Stedi sealed units I reckon. 3years with the 7" iris from them and no probs.check outhttps://www.stedi.com.au/stedi-7-inch-led-headlight.html?queryID=50b097f147458dd68b41ffd57eeb3b1b&objectID=761&indexName=m2prod_default_products

Yup, a few copies around.  Always been happy with stedi gear, postage to the UK may be the killer though.

I've ordered this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304939102055?hash=item46ffc96f67:g:l0YAAOSwFexkWeiB&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8AbXB4kiDWxV5gSVNwFIIEVNQLCoEC%2F%2FOskuLodmPEUBkSBugru4x9o%2FDvuL5fuQQdQcicVx7oF5zeeco4Fl4ch3uqRQ9AVUKteBHBp7UI0Lq5H8ZHjfxF6jjAVTB%2FoD32GeLLLOTKKbTuia%2F2toxHvSlY5MgXOJCIwPxkkjdc9ibapngJ2AyfYCTPxgRNKRPpZ5VNlKvNrSKfu0O%2FF9lmOJy%2BGiiFQmE7IewmbUUOPg89EugWRzdyuoKuPr5fHJ1uhnmAvGK0VUsbAuN3EGsNfGDYC%2BbbfYJGQ7oJLpYaXzgE2nQ7feVskNgXRTvHZgSw%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR9qxt-2gYg

I'll see what it's like in a few days, at that price or £14 for the cheapest Stedi copy I've seen it's rude not to just buy them & try them. We all know the specs will lie after all. Cheaper than most of the bulbs too.

Should ask SA14 Hooli, remember he did a War & Peace series of posts on LED bulbs . . . . :whistling:

Which bulb you got Speedy?
I was perfectly happy with mine till it died of old age.

I've now swapped the same bulb I also had in the Hornet back to the 14 & put the new LED bulb I got in the Hornet - it seems to work better in there oddly.

The first headlight arrived at the weekend & the beam pattern is again shyte. There's no 'up' for the light, the pattern is identical if you invert it & then the main shines above & below it. So to set the main right means 'dipped' would be straight forwards too. So useless, I'll send it back.

Hi Mr Hooli,

The bulbs I have arent cheap but keep in mind they come as a pair!
They ARE MOT friendly and they DO replicate the original beam pattern..
They DONT have a half arsed fan on them either !
Plus a 2 year warranty!

Pics of headlights are very different. Is the pattern on the road any different? Or just brighter perhaps ?

Hooli, i found exact same as you. Prob tried 4 diff globes, low beam ok, high beam just not there, tiny bit of blurry extra. Speedy , you mightve hit the jackpot with yours, i gave up. Happy with Race Vision from Phillips.Full insert prob very good but im just staying with mine now. https://www.powerbulbs.com/au/product/philips-racingvision-gt200-h4-twin?gclid=CjwKCAjwzJmlBhBBEiwAEJyLuyJpbpUrdQ4V_Kuoz5K2Ch5rFQM6nVH7cLDoeG5qhjOw9ZcJ-qiTzRoCYnoQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Thanks Speedy, they look very similar to the ones I've got that were excellent (expect mine are the older style with a fan). When the next headlight turns up & proves to be useless I'll bear these in mind.

Beam pattern is pretty much the same as the original Halogen H4 (thats why it passes the UK MOT test each year).
Hope this helps someone in the long run..
Please keep in mind the LED only draws around 12 watts!
In my case that effectively means free heated grips!
