Title: Indicators
Post by: Tonythetiger on Friday, 23 June 2023, 12:26 AM
Afternoon chaps, I've had a dodgy front left indicator for a while now, If I give it a tap it flashes properly. So I ordered some new oem style ones and have just finished fitting them but they now flash to quickly, the wiring had more joints than smackhead which I've now sorted out, if I put the hazards on they flash fine but left or right and it's to quick. Any Ideas appreciated as I useless with wiring.
                             Tony.

Are the new bulbs the same wattage as the old ones? lower power bulbs mean a faster flash.
You could change the bulbs or get a LED flasher as they use an electronic timer so aren't affected by the load.

I'd go for a new flasher relay as well. An LED relay will work with both normal bulbs as well as LED, so get that sort & keep the one you have currently as an emergency spare.

Thanks for the replirs, It had LED front and normal rear and now normal on all corners. I went to start her up and put her in the garage and had to jump start her, something is way off here as i've never had any issues with this bike.

Bound to be something to do with all those connections you tidied up.   Hasn't had / got an aftermarket alarm has it?

Likelihood is that something is earthing out which shouldn't be. If its just the indicators at the front, then that's where I'd start. What happens if you put the old indicators back on? Does everything work correctly then?

Have a good look and rummage around the wiring where it goes out through the headlamp shell and down the side of the headstock as its not unknown to get minor cuts or rubs along there.

defo not got an alarm, I would have had it removed asap as I had a nightmare with the one on my Triumph Daytona that had been on since 2001, So it had done 20 years by that point. I've had it on my NOCO charger all night and it was showing 13.5v after an hour off the charger. so I fired her up and the volts dropped to 12.4 which if memory serves it should have been about 14.4 with the engine running?

At tickover would still be low 13's but revved should be 14.3, 14.4 (above 14 for sure)

I'll pop a video on shortly, I've just took it off the all night charge and need the charge to settle down for 30 mins before I start checking voltages.

I can't add a video as it won't let me, It's showing 12.5v on tick over and does not rise with revs?

you have a charging problem, probably the reg/rec, hopefully not the geny  ???  but check all connections first.

It's always been the stator in my case, but others have seen different. The multiplug into the reg/rec can give issues as it gets dirty so that's worth a check.

Had the same sort of problem with mine when I put standard indicators back on.
Melted the relay as it was an after market one for LEDs, also indicator relay is the one to start the bike.
Changed my relay. And ALL Good
