Title: seat issue
Post by: hard road on Monday, 22 May 2023, 03:02 AM
Ive only had my 14 just over a day and the seat is giving my ass grief  :embarrassed:  ive read they are a bit of a problem !!!  last time i rode one in 2006 i cant remember how it was ? but its obvious what the problem is, its the slope. my other bikes have a flat seat and never had an issue.
has anyone flattened out the riders part with some seat mod's ?

Funny you should mention the seat..
I spent around 7 hours today (not continiously) in the saddle and my ass caused me to stop several times!
In my case I would say the saddle is a tad too soft.
Its a K7 so in all that time the foam must have Deteriorated..

Mine too , I find myself sliding down the seat to the tank , I did a 200 mile round trip today and find the seat compresses too easily and my arse begins to ache. My weight doesn't do the seat much favours , compensate this by adding an inflatable seat which straps onto the seat and helps a lot especially when I go down to Cornwall to my mates which is a 4+1/2 hr ride. Levelling the seat off by modding it would work, but it also means having the seat recovered. Finding a spare seat and having that done would preserve the originality of its present one. Btw mines a K7fe

yeah getting a spare seat would be the way to go and modding it keeping the original one to the side. the seat on my GSX1100 is flat (level with the floor) and is the best seat ive ever sat on. as you can see from the pic below.

I had my seat re-sculptured to almost flat & a Gel Insert installed. New seat cover (have the original here too)  Then I put a mesh cover over that. I'm happy with the result and don't suffer the sore ass syndrome anywhere near as much as I used to.

Cheapest solution would be to just get the foam replaced with High density foam and reuse the stock cover, depending on your height it could be enough of a fix, the std foam seems to be designed fir someone in the 50-70 kg range

I started a thread about seats a few years ago

https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=5059.0 (https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=5059.0)

Then this one later:

I might add, after putting on the Z1 higher bars I never really gave much of a "how is it" after some Ks. I still have them and my arse pain dilemmas don't seem to be so bad so the more upright riding position has helped I think, well I'm still riding and I did consider giving it all up. So, level seat and higher bars is my preference after all the dramas with arse pain.

My PITA and backache dramaticly reduced after I put lower and wider handlebar as my body weight moved a little bit forward on my arms

That mesh has stayed up really well, not squashing down at all.  Quite impressive really, cos I'm a heavy guy, bike has to be set for 2 up all the time . . . :whistling:

Nice lookin bike Col. So what would you say the mesh cover does, extra grip?

It adds cushioning & also lets air flow under, keeping you cooler on hot days.  I have the same on my YFM700 Quad, works great on summer runs up the river etc.
They're cheap as online, really worth a crack, n if you don't like them for some reason, it hasn't cost ya more than a beer.

I agree, stock seat is crap. One on mine is 12 yrs old, only re foamed top layer once. Worth spending for quality i reckon. Most comfy seat in my whole life. Sheepskin for long trips makes it even better.

I like the look and shape of your seat, it use it as a design for my spare seat. Had a bloke do some work on it but not happy with it.

I had a seat raised and flattened a couple of years ago, last weekend I rode up to my mums about 225 miles and it was fine.  Most bike manufacturers make big bike and then bugger them up by putting a skinny, low, sloping seat on them so short arses can ride a big bike, why don't they just buy a smaller bike.  :confused1:

mjgt, while back, thinking im old, i am, get a smaller bike. i checked out lots. just nothing i liked or found easier than 14. Maybe real small, but no guts, not for me. My thinking is, ive learnt how to push 14 around, hip located here, feet here, etc etc. Its comfy, know it backwards, Ill keep on for a while.

Only recovered my standard seat & it's fine for me. TBH the original cover wasn't bad, but it split so a smooth cover went on in it's place.

That's a Top Sellerie seat, ya buy them online, from France if I remember correctly.  I looked at those & would have really liked one, but spending that amount of coin without being able to confirm fit, nah, I just couldn't take that chance.

Just to add, I see Top Sellerie are now also in Australia, so you guys can now get one 'local'  hell, maybe I can too, I'll go check their prices.

Geez, Euro369 for a new seat, that's north of $650 here   Might just stay with what I've got thx.  :onya:

I bought one of their lowered seats and was very dissatisfied with it. I have had it remodelled once and still not happy with it. It's now with another local Trimmer and hopefully this time it will be good. 🤞
