I've heard 'Delboy' from the YT channel "Delboy's Garage" has got his hands on a 1400... poor bloody thing. :cry2:
Anyway when whatever he does to it is 'finished' I reckon that'll be the most dangerous 1400 in the UK and one to definitely avoid buying irrespective of the price. Based on the other things that bloke on that YouTube channel has done in the past.
No idea who you mean, but I know a garage who unfortunately are still trading that built the most dangerous 14 I've ever had to sort out.
Delboy Garage, that bloke drives me crazy, so annoying. Full of crap also. IMO only.
Don't watch him but I can imagine.
Slightly related. The bloke who did a big exposure on why new R1's are flawed and will destroy their cranks (it was a couple of isolated instances) but was 100% proved wrong, is now doing a big exposure on why H2's are ticking time bombs because a couple of older early models dropped bolts into the compressor blades.
The expert didn't own an R1 or a H2 but is happy to make a drama and get attention.
I did have a look at what Delboy was doing to the 1400, he just put on new bars, Renthals off & Fatboy conversion on. It was ok, didn't do anything stupid, next video he's doing a service on it.
Reckon it's good to watch these things to see if they do something wrong & we get people copying that, least we'd have an idea of what's gone wrong & why / how.
Just my 2c worth.

That's Matt aka Dirty Garage Guy.
He's pretty knowledgeable and was going off reports on the internet showing the damage and likely cause, as well as a photo he was sent privately by a mechanic.
Yes, he failed to mention (may well not know) that the problem has since been addressed.
I've not sees the R1 video.
He was absolutely right on the money re the Alfadan marine engine stuff being a big scam / wild misinformation aka bullshit.
Matt does a heap of videos taking the piss out of Delboy's Garage and they ARE funny :)

So far. oh an WTF is a fatboy conversion?
Hopefully the 'service' won't be like the one he deleted off his channel which showed him warming up his bike BEFORE doing a coolant change, opening the radiator whilst under pressure (with hot water and steam bursting out naturally) having said that this was the correct way to do a coolant change and it is necessary to heat it up beforehand.
After Matt (Dirty Garage Guy) did a video on it, Del deleted it from teh channel and has niot mentioned why etc.
Del is dangerous. It's amazing he hasn't killed himself or lopped off a few digits yet - he uses an angle grinder bolted into a vice in lieu of a bench grinder. And you can see the damn thing shift as he's using it!.
He hammers things while holding them in mid-air and usually grasps his hammer like a pencil.
Dangerous, but from a "can you believe he did that?" he really delivers as far as entertainment is concerned.
That's why I watch Matt (DGG) videos commenting on Del though - as he explains things, is amusing, and Del doesn't get the views :)
,
My error, should read Fatbar not Fatboy.
Just had a look at Matt reviewing Dels welding. OMG! I see where folk are coming from. As one of the comments stated, he doesn't know about something and doesn't care, he's quite happy to expound his theories / methods with no shame or remorse.

He needs to get a grown up to help him with his presentation. It is bloody awful, trying to explain and clicking the wrong links and going backwards and forwards with the wrong links dithering about. If it wasn't a subject I was interested in I'd have given up after 30 seconds.
His R1 "explanation" went into detail what was wrong with the design and what caused the problem... except he was totally wrong and others proved his explanation was not possible.
On another forum with some clever engineers and tech folk amongst who own stuff like a road going Petronas FP1, a 500cc ex-MotoGP bike, a Yoshibusa X1 and various H2's he's not given much credit.
Not a person or Chanel I'd follow.
I used to watch "Delboys Garage" a lot but drifted away..
Last night (thanks to the Heads up on here) I watched all of the GXX videos on his channel..
I cant say I saw anything he did that would get my knickers in a twist !
In fact I thought the painting of his engine casings were a top job!
I have over the years gained a lot of helpful advice from his channel.
No youtube channels are perfect. I tend to watch a handful on the same subject to get a flavour of how to do (or not to) any DIY jobs I may be interested in.
In my work I have a VERY good reputation for work I do to Stringed instruments (Violin / Viola and Cello)..
We literally get work from all over the UK
We take on some repairs that would not be viable in say London or any of the major cities in the UK due to the comparitively low value of some instruments (below say £5k) and the high overheads in the big cities..
To do some of these repairs means using some "unorthodox" methods which you wont find in any Luthiers repair book!!
If I ever did a youtube channel (and I WILL NOT) on my methods developed over years, then I am sure I would be ridiculed and slagged off !
We have hundreds of happy customers whos instruments were effectively written off, but now are repaired and fit for another hundred years..
Ooops I am going off topic..
But I just thought Delboys garage gets unfairly slagged off sometimes (especially by a certain "sour Grapes" other Youtube channel ).
S.
Reckon if you tube video made of my way of doing things, holes picked left, right and centre. Still doesnt help me like Delboy. Different strokes, different folks.
I wouldn't want anyone to see me when we welded up the cracked Busa frame, or cleaning out disc bobbins with a nut and bolt in a drill with brake cleaner or lots of other things. I do however see a huge difference between the stuff we do behind closed doors for ourselves and folk doing "how to" and information stuff online, especially when the folk infront of the camera aren't 100% clue'd up on the subject.
Just with bikes I'm familiar with, Busa, B-King, H2 SX there's regularly folk talking absolute crap and reeling off facts and figures that are far removed from reality in their video's.

Totally disagree. There may be no issues with the 1400 bike, but also Matt hasn't made any videos about that. He does make videos where Del shows stupid shit.
And as Tony points out there is a BIG difference between doing things a certain way behind closed doors and TEACHING people that certain things are an appropriate / safe way to operate.
Matt may not be perfect by any means - like anyone - but his videos about Del are - in my mind - completely justified.
And funny.
But it is what it is :D
Where do yous get the time to watch all this stuff.

I work in teh public service?
No that's not it - YouTube is just a way I spend a few hours of an evening to relax.
I just watched his "how to" clip on fixing a Busa's BTL.
He's wrong on a few points from when and why there's an issue to the option on the fix's.
What he did will work but he didn't sound very clue'd up on it.
He wouldn't be my mentor.
