Title: Issue past 2000 rpm
Post by: Jim_WA on Sunday, 19 March 2023, 03:21 PM
Recently purchased a one-owner 2005 model with 64K km on it.  It has been ridden a couple of times a week since and I have done about 400km.  Rode the bike for about 40km yesterday with no issues. It started OK this morning but past 2000 rpm it starts breaking down and there is a strong smell of fuel.  Thoughts please before I book it in.

Sounds suspiciously like your fuel pump. I believe there is a fix listed on the site.

Possibly worth checking the spark plugs also, when a plug fails it is usually when under load, this could also explain the petrol smell with it not getting burnt

Jim, id be confident a fuel delivery prob. Tea bag clogged, High pressure filter blocked. As for fuel smell, no idea unless leaking connecter on hose. Has it had old fuel in it? GSX14 thrive on good fuel delivery, high pressure filter is a mongrel, external mod makes a better machine. Not mis firing? That could be plugs if it is, not revving, fuel supply in my books.

Agree with Mr. Grog.  Whereabouts in WA are you Jim? I'm south of Perth, happy to have a look at it for you if you're nearby.

Fuel pump was replaced with an aftermarket one, teabag filter was OK and there was still the same issue so ended up taking the bike to the Suzuki shop.  Eventually they worked out it was a restriction in the filter so had to get a new fuel filter assembly, expensive bloody thing isn't it?  The bike was there for three weeks.

HP filter strikes again!  :frustrated:

The external bypass mod would have solved your issue for a few bucks & you could clean the HP filter whenever you wanted - easily.   Just sayin . . .

Yep easy enough, even I managed to do it and not set fire to myself, the bike or the shed
