Picture of my father's racing helmet from the 1950's.
Shell is made of pressed linen.
Wow - how helmets have changed!
They were designed to be like an egg shell !!!! Your brain was like the yoke on impact 🙀🙀🙀
Here it is being used in anger around Bathurst 1959.
My father is getting dementia so I am trying to secretly record his stories from the era, these guys were hard as fucking nails.
My uncle Jed RIP raced at IoM dressed like that. Leathers NO PADDING OMFG 🙀
He was solo rider on home made Triton, hybrid Triumph/Norton featherbed frame 👍👍🙏🙏
Hmmm, funny how things sorta match up. I met a bloke at the pub the other day, got talking & found out he used to race side cars! He was the driver, not the swinger, Showed me pic's he keeps in his wallet, his was an enclosed version. He's 80 years old & ya wouldn't pick him for much past 65! Still has 3 bikes & rides when he can, but his hip is needing a replacement. Said what the bikes were, but I can't recall exactly, think he said one was a Ducati 1050?
His name is Alex MacDonald in case anyone has heard of him.
Sure were tough mongrels. 👏🏍
I've still got my Dad's old 1950's "Corker" lid here.
