Title: Visiting New Zealand ?
Post by: Kiwifruit on Monday, 16 January 2023, 07:43 AM
I'm prompted by Seth's post regarding accomodation.
If you are visiting NZ get in touch, we have a room or two we use for visitors. Just out in the country, only 10mins to town. Be good to meet like minded people.

And the same to anyone wishing to visit Vancouver - We are rattling around in this house - 4 spare bedrooms - one has two beds for kids! Come-on-down!

That's very generous, I love to reciprocate that sometime (we are in the middle of France - you would need to love cows or sheep or both frankly but I don't suppose that's an issue for someone from your neck of the woods).  I would love to freight my bike down and spend 3 to 4 weeks touring around sometime.

I'd better get a move on an organise something, I'm not getting any younger!

Wow , that would  be great. I wonder how much it would cost ship  a bike from the UK...

Just had a conversation with a shipper I used to use for work - very reliable and helpful, I used him to ship machines to NZ, China, Nigeria, Japan etc. and he was always great on price and really fantastically helpful.  Anyway...I told him that I wanted to see if he could organise getting my bike down for a 6 week or so trip around the beginning of next year.  He is getting me some costings together based on the bike (mine is French plated/documents etc) shipped from a UK port around the beginning of December to try and arrive in NZ sometime early Jan.  Good news is he says he can organise it no problem, bad news is he reckons I should have done it before Covid hit as the prices since Covid for Australia/NZ etc have gone through the roof after.

Anyway I will see what he comes back with and decide from there, I will let any interested parties know what his costings are like.

Am looking to buy another bike most likely a 1400 as there are a few on here that have mentioned the desire to visit. Not many available at present. Be nice to find one that had a few of the necessities needed for touring included. Would not be free but would be a lot cheaper than shipping yours over.
Will keep you posted on progress

It's worth looking on Horizons Unlimited, both the forum and FB group. People often share a container with others to reduce shipping costs too. Typically you seem to pay per container, no matter what's in it.

Just thinking Col, if you want another Black to add to the stable, guess we could work something out for my 'spare'

Went for a ride with some lads from the Bay of Plenty BMW Owners Club yesterday. Went on some great roads that I haven't ridden before. Coffee in Rotorua, stopped for a stretch at Matahina Lake

then more back roads to our last stop at the Matata pub for a beer and a meal.

311kms for the day with some good guys, great day had by all.
