Title: Twin headlights
Post by: Paul Weaver on Sunday, 12 March 2017, 12:31 AM
Hi chaps, has anyone done this conversion from the standard light? Any advice? Preferred brands? Any electrical mods to be done? I've heard bates are the o es to go for?

Cheers.

I think some insurance companies load you for a twin headlight conversion in the UK, might be worth checking before going ahead.

A few have done it, and yes I believe Bates are the ones to fit. You will of course need to mod your loom a little for twin headlamp plugs and also sidelights but that's about it. Biggest "problem" you will have is "losing" all the wiring in the standard headlamp, most pull as much back as possible behind the headstock / under the tank and wrap in a waterproof bag - but you won't get it all back, so some has to sit in a waterproof bag behind the twin lamps.

Most also fit alternate headlamp brackets, replacing the standard brackets.

You can get Bates here, they also do aluminium clamps for them http://www.moorespeedracing.co.uk/search/for/bates/

Twin Dominator type headlights are renowned for poor light beam pattern and poor light output.

Some of the lads on the Bandit Forum wire them in using this kit which uses relays. The light output is better and it's a direct plugin to your existing loom. For the money you wouldn't be able to buy the components and make it yourself.

I converted my Bandit from a faired model to a single headlamp. There is a load of wiring in the fairing which I pulled back under the tank. I was able to shorten the loom by 30cm..This was cut out and dumped. I also relocated the horn under the tank to tidy things up even further.

I just converted mine to the Dominator twin courtesy of @Red Biker - my OEM headlight was buckled and open to the weather and it was an easy and cheap conversion.

I simply plugged it in to the existing connector. I did see the Bandit conversion using relays, but not that one you just posted @froudy - might give it a try.
