Title: A sad day - RIP John Surtees
Post by: gsxbarmy on Saturday, 11 March 2017, 08:53 AM
John Surtees, the only man to win world championships on both 2 and 4 wheels, a feat which I doubt will ever be repeated, passed away today at the ripe old age of 83.

RIP John and thanks for the thrills and memories

Yes a sad day indeed. A true racer in every sense of the word. Long may he be remembered.

Rest easy John.

I had a 'race' home from my work in the 60s, I had a Bonnie & this Vincent past me like I was parked-up, the guy was stopped a bit further up the road, so I stopped & we had a chat, it was, it turned out to be John Surtees.
I was around 18 & he was I guessed around 30 or so, I had no idea who he was at the time, lovely fella & we had a little 'chat' about bikes,  it was only later on that I found out about him, & apparently he worked for some sort of racing/development factory near to me.

RIP John. :salute:

Because of this guy I can say "A Motorcyclist can win the Car Championship but a Car Driver good enough to win the Motorcycle Championship".
RIP John Surtees.
