Title: Brembo Callipers ?
Post by: Notty on Friday, 04 November 2022, 03:26 AM
Just bought new EBC gold discs. My 6 pot callipers were repainted but as Simon (speedy) expeienced when a small amount of brake fluid leaked after bleeding some paint came off. Did touch it up but has always annoyed me. I do like the look of this kit ( an alloy mount would be better) and yes I would rather go radial but too expensive
thoughts guys?

Well mate, FWIW, I find my std brakes work just fine for me with the speeds / distance I travel.  So it'd be a no from me.

It all depends on what you're hoping to achieve by swapping to these, if it's just the annoying paint run, then perhaps a visit to Del? or have them powder coated or painted in fluid proof paint?

I like them.    I'm collecting parts for my Gen-1 Busa rebuild and replacing the Toxic's is part of it. I'm a huge fan of modern radial calipers but the price of a complete front end isn't justified on my build either.

I've had a few sets of Brembo's and can't fault them. The adapter brackets do look like a bit of an afterthought compared to factory but they work.

I never found the standard brakes lacking as long as they were maintained.

That's not unusual to hear, lots of folk seem happy with them. Doesn't mean that after all these years folk can't find alternatives from SV's to Brembo's that require less maintenance and may work better.

Tyres, gearing, handlebars, exhausts etc etc etc. Some folk are happy with it, some folk feel it could be better.

Doesn't make either one wrong.

I did the 4 pot conversion when I first got mine almost 3 years ago, TL 1000 I think? they have a better feel to me than the 6 potters, my 6 potters were very touchy, the 4s have a less grabby feel and work fine if you need to stop in a hurry and less chance of a lockup IMO. I also have stiffer springs in the front and they are a very good upgrade as well.
Just my 2Cs worth. Probably a bit off topic but wtf.

Notty, price of that Brembo conversion against Monoblocs? I priced all up once, not using Brembos but Nissin monos from memory. In the end i stuck with 6 pots. Brembo Monos the best ive used on a bike. Amazing.

If we ever meet up, try my Busa.

Brembo Stylema radial callipers on 320mm discs with some clever electrics that changes the ABS to suit the lean angle etc etc.  They aren't brutal when they come in but they are very strong and progressive with a lot of feel.

I put Brembo in my trusted brand list with Renthal, Yoshimura, Bridgestone, Yuasa etc.

I am happy with my 6 pots, however as mentioned earlier its a cosmetic problem - could get them repainted and serviced for £175 but Speedy had some done/bought and he had the same problem that any slight spillage of brake fluid and paint comes off as not as tough as original coating. So for £150 more new Brembo callipers, sell my old ones ?  :)

Quite right Notty...
I had a spray bottle of soapy water standing by when I bled the brakes..
I suspect they were spray painted rather than powder coated.
Other than that the Powerhouse calipers were fine.
