Hello Everyone,
Long story short, I managed to find myself a used set of the almost mythological Givi pannier racks for my GSX1400, plus the rear rack rails, top box plate and a pair of Givi panniers :)
Removed my existing Ventura rack/rails, installed the rear rack rails and plate. My Givi Trekker top box now has a new home. Obviously neither the Givi rack nor box are as svelte and unobtrusive a solution as the Ventura rack/semi-soft bag, but happy to have lockable storage again.
Don't intend to have hard panniers attached all the time, but would like to mount the pannier racks soon to make sure I have all the mounting hardware and that the system fits/works. Tried searching internet for instructions or pics, but no joy.
Would appreciate if anyone here could:
* provide a link to the Givi pannier rack installation instructions or
* attach or link some decent pics of the racks mounted on a G14 (without the panniers themselves attached so that I can see how it all fits together)
Thanks. Ride safe, J
As posted on your wanted thread.
It's a doddle.
The 'long leg' on the pannier rack goes to the bottom of the pillion pegs. There's two types of pannier rack, sounds like you have the later one so the RH side goes to the exhaust mounting bolt & the LH side fits onto (a longer I think) pivot pin for the peg. The earlier kit require the earlier twin exhaust LH peg with the exhaust hanger on it.
The 'small leg' in the middle of the top of the pannier rack has an allen bolt through it (M8 I think, but that's from old memories) that screws into a threaded hole in the rack arm. If it's 'as new' then there's a plastic bung in the rack arm hiding the hole.
This is the best pic I can find at short notice.
@j_rider those givi panniers and racks are TERRIBLE. I recommend you get rid of them.
Please send them my way! ;)
Thanks for the photo and instructions
@Hooli. Much appreciated. However, after looking at your pic, having a quick play with the pannier racks today and messaging the seller, I am confused, but also now sure the racks I have are NOT the ones you pictured.
Now I am no mechanical genius like many of you, but I am normally pretty decent with figuring out how to assemble stuff, however, struggling a bit with this.
The seller is adamant that they came off his K6 GSX1400 (and the top box rack did fit). However, the pannier racks I have do not look anything like your pics. They appear 'modular' with fasteners I have never seen before (that require a tool I don't have, lol, making even mocking them up somewhat impossible). Also the parts all appear to suggest a symmetrical installation (eg. not attached to the pillion peg on one side and the exhaust mount on the other).
I have included a few pics (all the included parts, a close up of the fasteners I referred to above, a close up of the 'hoop'). They are really well built, not even 100% sure they are Givi products at this point! If anyone has any ideas, would love to hear them.
That doesn't look like my new kit, the fitting brackets are different to mine. But the pannier frame is the same.
But it also looks like you have the quick release adapter kit on your pannier frame. You need the tri-pointed key to make it work from memory.
They look like a set to take the v35 box's
But could be wrong
Hmm those are different to mine, no idea sorry.
But re fitting to the exhaust mount/pilly peg. The bit I meant is nearly symmetrical as it's the exhaust mount on the bottom of the peg I was referring too.

Thanks for the extra info
@BlueDragon. Will try to chase down one of those tri-pointed tools.

Yes,
@Stepdoug, you are right. They are a pair of V35 Monokeys that came in the trade.

Appreciate you taking the time to chime back in with the extra info
@Hooli.
Good luck solving it. I had a look around on google but couldn't find any instructions for them.

Does the seller have any pictures of them fitted to his 14?
Hope these can help. Right hand shock allen screw came loose so just a dab of thread lock solved that. You also need to extend the loom to the indicators. Think you need longer allen bolts for grab rail mounts.
J-rider yours dont even look similar. I should have looked more closely at your pics first
Here you have some more photos with my mod...

@j_rider this is the tri-pointed givi key you are after https://mad4bikes.co.uk/givi-z2711r-key-for-quick-release-pannier-rails-plxr-plr-klr-klxr-cam/
You'll need to do a search on the Aussie sites though for a supplier down under - search on "Givi Z2711R"
Ron Angel in Adelaide is the GIVI wholesaler in Australia, I spoke to them on availability of parts but had to order through a local agent. You could try Carlisle Tyres and Accessories used to be in Ingleburn Western Sydney from memory.
Thanks
@gsxbarmy and
@Irish in Oz for the extra info and leads.
I contacted Ron Angel, who pointed me to a local dealer. Got the tool coming in early next week.
