Title: Standard Spark Plugs
Post by: Speedy1959 on Wednesday, 19 October 2022, 03:14 AM
I know what the owners manual says..
But I have difficulty in believing that a low revving / Low stress engine need a change of plugs as often as it suggests!!
My Honda CB1300 wanted a plug change every 24,000 miles if I remember correctly..

How often do you lot change the plugs?
I am talking standard NGK (NOT irridium)

I change ours every couple of years so probably 15-20k miles
Standard ones have never failed and probably don't even need changing when I change them .

I took them out at the recommended intervals, checked the gap that never needed adjusting, gave them a rub with a wire brush & put them back. They'll do fifty thousand miles easy enough, but by then the plug was so rusty it affected the spark. The bit inside the engine was still ok.

I'd have to concur  :hat:
I went down the road of iridium plugs $25/AUS each, they lasted same time & made no difference to performance or fuel efficiency 🥴🥴
Standard plugs are $9 from memory 😪

I've owned my 1402 for just under 6 years now (just checked, I bought it on 18.11.2016) and I think I've replaced the plugs once. 48000km on the clock and I've put 10,000 of those on.

Same as most folk, every few years or when checked at a major service.

Tried Iridium on other big bikes, on the dyno and drag strip, no gains, and traditional plugs are cheap enough and last long enough that they rarely get a 2nd thought.

I use standard NGK CR8EK plugs and change them after 25 000 to 35 000 km.

Yeah, mine has spark plugs. Next time tank is off ill have a look at them. Not something that really worries me, ask me how many spares i carried back in old 2 stroke days, just doesnt apply with 14.

My K1300GT runs iridium plugs as standard, supposed to last 100,000km.  Bikes at 97,000km, guess I'll find out soon enough.  Only reason they use those coz it's a right pita to get access to them and you need a special tool to pull the coil packs off as otherwise you break 'em.
