Title: Clocks
Post by: das on Monday, 10 October 2022, 02:44 PM
Hi all,
I"ve read thru some topics on here regarding clock issues but cant pinpoint my issue.
My issue is that when turning ignition on speedo spins but rev counter does nothing and stays that way.
The f1 fault comes and goes and it starts fine but no rev counter.

Any ideas please

@Thommohawk is the man he's not here load these days but
If you have face book Paul Thompson is his name .
If 1 side of the clocks is doing it's sweep it might just be a bad connector or broken wire that worth a check first .

For starters check that the clocks are getting the tacho input from the ECU. My wiring diagram copy is practically unreadable to find the corresponding wire colour, but it's the one on this pic marked "Tacho". You shold get continuity all the way from the plug back to the ECU. Check the ECU Data feed wire as well.
The big grey block connector behind the L/H sode panel is also worth checking along with the connector for the loom -Ve which is a black/white wire approx 10Cm's away from the battery -Ve terminal. All are known to cause various problems. If all these check out OK then it's Thommo time for the clocks.

Good luck.

I agree with @seth

My son had the same problem with his CB400 Super four..

Tacho wouldn't sweep around and would not work.

It ended up being the wire from the ECU to the Tacho was broken, caused by a kink.  previous owner had LED spotlights connected up and did a crap job at it.

I replaced the entire wire and all was good again.

From memory it was a photo Thommo put up at some stage. I saved it for future reference.
