Title: Disc lock
Post by: nod on Monday, 03 October 2022, 05:23 PM
Bit of a long shot I know,I've stupidly misplaced my one and only key for my Oxford monster disc lock,,and yes,it's locked onto the disc now,it wasnt a normal key as such, about 30mm in length and curved on the length,
Seemed a basic key to me, the lock is about ;20 years old,,
If anybody has a spare key, the
y could possibly loan me,I would be most grateful, thank you

If you know a scroat he will do it for a small fee😬

Or if desperate then an angle grinder will work.

I use an oxford monster disk lock and the key is a curved one but they are all different so it wont help.  If the key does not turn up I think your only solution would be to cut it off.

If there is a number on the barrel that'd be the key number to order a replacement.

The number is on the key, I've tried the website too, trying to order a new key

Send the whole bike to "The Lock Picking Lawyer" on Youtube??

Try this then...

Video works but that's a specialist lock pick would be worth more than a new disc lock

well, last chance now ,,,ive had 1 key sent to me by a very helpful member,,sadly it didnt fit,,appreciate the effort to post the key to me tho''' it now looks like i,ll be cutting the lock off,
just been out for a look at the lock,,,its not going to be an easy task tho,,[well for me anyway],,not a great deal of space to get to the
"u" bolt type lock that goes into the casing,,,,i dont think anybody else had this problem on here,,or they might have posted a solution by now????
saturday is the day when angle grinder makes an appearance

I had to cut a disc lock off once. I just held it & went carefully, a better idea would be to put some wooden wedges in so it's held solid & won't move as you cut it though. The wood will also 'catch' the grinder before you hit the disk too.

Go to YouTube and look up breaking a disc lock I've seen them get broken really easily with a big easi-out .
They are cast so very brittle .https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vrjq2DawQqY
This will give you an idea .

Ive looked at youtube, and no oxford monster locks being broken,,,i think i will just attack the main casing first and see whats in there,,things are different when the lock is actually fitted on the disc,,,,

Call the local scrote bike thief round. He'll sort it for you as they seem to be able to remove the majority of disc locks in under a minute :furious:

Be careful Nod. Angle Grinders suck. Cost me 5 days in hospital, 3 mths recovery. Numb toes n foot forever. My fault totally.

Do like the movie and spray it with co2 or dry ice and hit it with a hammer.

Works for Arnie and Sarah Connor....

Omg, I can't believe how easy that was,, a towel placed around the disc and up through the "u" of the lock,,,
2 cuts about 20mm apart on the outside part of lock,,,like a knife through butter,,, took me maybe 5 mins ,start to finish,,,bike thieves have it easy,
Now ,what's the betting the key will turn up tomorrow:::::
Thanks for all the advice and thanks to Mick for the try of his key,,no luck tho
