Title: Fuel Pump??
Post by: Yetiman on Thursday, 08 September 2022, 02:34 PM
Hey fellas,
I replaced my fuel Pump a few weeks ago with a new Quantum Brand one ( https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08YC1W81W/ref=ewc_pr_img_2?smid=A1JR0G3TPC006Z&psc=1 )
as soon as I installed it I noticed the noise it was Buzzing loudly when I took it for a ride Monday-6/9/22 the noise was so loud I could hear the Buzzing while riding with my Helmet on and the bike would not go properly only half throttle then it would bog-down and not go any harder, I tried looking for an Original Fuel-Pump in Australia ( https://www.mickhone.com.au/partFinder/fiche/suzuki/2007/gsx1400/fuel-pump#next ) and you can only get the full kit for almost a $1000 you can't just buy the fuel pump separate anyone got any ideas, Is there an aftermarket one that's very good that someone can post a link to? Cheers

The buzzing noise you're hearing is the pump working overtime to push fuel through a blocked high pressure filter. I presume when you fitted the new pump that you also replaced/cleaned the tea bag filter.

Yeah mate new fuel pump and tea bag as in kit. You think I might have blocked it somehow.

Yeti, you havent blocked high pressure filter, it just is. A few options, buy the high price assy, try flushing it out, lots of people do, instructions on site somewhere. I hate to reco external filter mod, people must get sick of me doing so, i hate saying same old reco. It works for not much dollars, just a bit of time and thought.

Teabag is the low pressure filter, the black cannister next to the pump is the high pressure filter.

Mine is doing a similar thing, but it hasn't affected fuel flow (yet).

If you get a spray can of brake and parts cleaner, you can reverse flush the hp filter, this may help in the short term. It will wash out a lot of the black muck that is trapped in the hp filter.

I am planning to do the HP filter bypass and stand alone hp filter mod as others have done with great success.

Ok thanx for the Tip I didn't even know there was x2 filters HI-LO fllow,
I will give it a go with the Brake cleaner reverse flow clean and see how it goes for now,
I did find out that the Suzuki fuel pump is made by Denso part # EFP-007 .
At least that's what I was told by Suzuki parts bloke.
Have you got a link to the outside filter mod? Parts I'll need ect;

007 pump is correct. Made by numerous diff manufacturers. Runs in high power turbos in cars so easily works in 14. Filter the problem not the pump.

Got the "External filter Mod" done ( https://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,6105.0.html )
Just used a cheap filter for now while I wait for the new one to arrive and will make a new bracket to hold filter like Snapey ,
Started the bike and the Fuel pump is quiet as a mouse and started straight up no problem thanx again for the tip.

Will do mate should be a big difference as the bike when I bought it had a half dead pump and the tea bag was like a solid rock, Not knowing there was Two filters the Hi-pressure filter was obviously very blocked too as was stopping the throttle from revving past halfway would just bog and not accelerate,
I got this Filter ( https://www.easyr.com.au/golan-products-inc-gp-60-312g-blk-mini-inline-5-16 )
Bit pricey but better than $600 for the suzuki one. and the Golan one can be serviced.

Great decision to go external but they don't miss you on the price. You'll probably have to clean it a couple of times early on as the crap that's been blocking the OEM filter dislodges and is picked up by the new one.

One other thing you need to do while the pump is out is secure the pressure regulator with a cable tie or stainless wire as the clip is a weak point.

Thanx Snapey I will keep an eye out on the Filter and clean it every 2nd-3rd ride, I already did the wire mod.
