Title: Short ”belly screw” for gear lever.
Post by: DanHam on Tuesday, 02 August 2022, 07:33 PM
I don't know if I'm the only one with this problem, but the gear lever is to high, I have to lift my leg when I change to a higher gear. It should be enough to wiggle my foot. Now the tecnical. :frustrated:
There is a rod or stick, I think you call it a belly screw, not sure. It's for adjustment of gear lever.
It's to short. Anyone with the same experience? What to do? Extend it? :whatever:
The tread is not metrical, don't know what.

Move the short lever around the splines on the output shaft.

The threads are metric, but one end is a left hand thread.

It's not hard to extend the rod. Pick the right end an cut down a long bolt to make an extension. You just need to find a "long nut" (not sure of the proper name) with an internal thread. I did my Bandit when I raised the pegs.   If you're using standard peg location then 99% of the time you can adjust the rod, or move the arm on the spline.

Loosen the locknuts off at both ends of the gearchange rod and turn it to raise or lower the pedal angle. Re tighten locknuts..JOB DONE :onya:

I missed the obvious. I though there was some reason it couldn't be adjusted far enough, never thought of not being familiar with the adjustment !

First, thanks for your quick reply in this matter, but I'm familiar with the adjustment possibilities, but the rod is not long enough. Tony knows what I mean, and I have the nut he used, it's simply called "extension nut" see pic below. The problem is that it get's to long. I will first check if I can turn the end on the output splines, like Tony says, if not, I will cut in in half and weld in a piece to get the right length. Voila!  :clapping:

....or change the position of the short lever on the splines...

If you have the extension nut, the thread will match one end of the rod.

If you make up a minimum length extension piece and find it's too long you can try and adjust it out by having the ends of the adjuster at their shortest length, .... if that's not enough move the lever on the out put shaft around a spline or two.

It avoids any permanent cutting and welding too.
