Out for a ride today, im old, my hips want to cramp up all the time. anyone else have same problem, are there answers? Really dont want to change bikes but maybe forward control bike is only way. Not much choice in those bikes. Will check out physio/masseurs for cure. Sure bloody hurts, ruins the ride.
I get it real bad, but not often. Mine is if I've been riding a while, then stop, feet down, then I get it when I pull away feet back on the pegs. Seriously painful for a while but not a regular thing.
I never used to get it, but I never used to be this age !
Yep I get them - age thing :bugga:
Last thing in my world is to not have my 14. Problem is if hips cant be stopped from the cruel pain, what to do? Only bike i like with fwd controls is Bonnie Speedmaster. Any thoughts Gentlemen? Not a Harley person, dont like any Jap cruisers, Rocket is unreal, spent lots of time on one, just too heavy to park. Any other choices?
Sounds to me that you are simply lacking flexibility intuit area mate - I'd get some advice and begin some mild stretching, if you don't do that already.
If that doesn't work, some acupuncture may relieve them but a lot of hip/lower back issues simply stem from a lack of flexibility.
Also a much less painful option than selling the Beast!
Yeah, same here Grog. I find I'm prone to getting these when I've been off the bike a while, and I'm old n heavy. I alleviate it to some degree by taking hoof off the peg & extending the leg forward, on left side I rest on gen casing on right I just sorta hold it there. I do that a few times & often helps.
Another thing I do is stand up on the pegs, 10 sec of that & it usually goes away. Sounds a bit weird to stand n ride, but ya just keep hold of the bars & stand up, easy, & no handling issues either. It's an odd feeling standing & riding, but I actually like it, 100k & standing, different. I'm not doing this in hill sections or round twistys, just the straight roads.
Another thing (that's inexpensive too) is to put some folding highway pegs onto your crash bars, that way you can have your legs forward for a bit of a breather.
Grog I'm the same hip cramps is painful. I've found taking magnesium keeps cramp at bay. I have a spray called Tissue Salts, an excellent product. I used to get a lot of cramp. Sometimes I am locked up unable to move. This stuff really works. Spray it under your tongue.
Started on hip stretch exercises this morning. Been on magnesium tabs for years but will get the spray Col. Thankyou gentlemen👏
I get them sometimes but usually after 1 5 to 2hours solid riding. Magnesium helps, as does potassium (eat more bananas) a good stretch before starting off also helps.
Voltaren emulgel does wonders.
Chiro can help too by ensuring hip, spine, neck is in alignment.
Thanks Eric. Have banana everyday with porridge for brekky. Mag tablets also for years. Ill try my new exercises and Kiwifruits' spray. Will be so much better to ride without pain, becoming a master of standing up riding, worries me foot might slip one day.

That's where high heels cone in handy..... :stir:
It is a bugger for sure! When it happens I have to stand up on the pegs otherwise stop and stretch them out!
