Title: random fault - suggestions?
Post by: spb2002 on Wednesday, 18 May 2022, 11:55 PM
i've had my K2 for a little over a year now, and apart from my chinese aftermarket levers issue, my bike has performed flawlessly. I love that i can wheel her out, fire her up and never worry. Until now anyway..

The last few weeks i've noticed a couple of things, which i'd like advice on if possible please?

1. - not a big issue, and might just be me being more lazy, but just lately if i try to pull away from low revs in a high gear the bike will stutter a bit before it pulls away. if i dropped a gear at this point, it wouldn't be an issue, its just when its in a higher gear.

2. - this one is a bit more troublesome. a few times now, it'll start up on the button perfectly well.... i'll ride away for about 20 mins or so, faultlessly. However, if i turn the ignition off, then start her up again.. she has stalled/ cut out when i've put her in gear to drive away. wont fire up again unless i turn the key off, then back on again... and she'll fire up and ride well again like nothing had happened.

any thoughts on what could cause this?

For #2, you're not putting it in gear with the side stand still down are you?   Definitely sounds like side stand switch is activating.

For #2 - you mention aftermarket levers - have you adjusted the clutch lever? Some aftermarket levers don't release the clutch switch if they are adjusted too far one way

Mate, youve only changed levers, maybe thats your clue. Stick stock back in as a trial.

My first thought for 1) is throttle body sync, but combine it with 2) & I'll suggest checking or replacing the vacuum pipes. They go hard & split with age, I've done them on a few 14s now & the problem sounds the same when it first started.

It's normal 3.2mm hose, I use a roll from halfrauds as my local stocks it & it's more than enough. Small tip, cut it all to size using the old ones as templates then dump it all in hot water to assemble, it softens the hoses & makes them stretch easier over the joining sections. Don't forgot the one to the PAIRS valve as well as all the ones that run up to the MAP sensor.

Thanks for the replies gents.

I should have explained.... I swapped the levers over about a year ago.... you guys (and Seth) helped me resolve that issue back then (not releasing the clutch switch properly). it's been fine ever since, until recently.

I've not tried pulling away with sidestand down... but i'll clean the sidestand switch plunger, just in case thats not releasing. I'll check the vacuum pipes too.

Thanks for all the suggestions
