Bit of a weird one I know but here goes...
When I switch anything electrical on the bike with ignition on but not running everything works as it should with no sound but when the bike is running I can hear a very low tone high pitch sound that gets louder everytime I switch something one...
For example switching heated grips on high pitch sound gets louder, switching them off goes again ,indicators on and the high frequency sound fluctuates on and off with the indicators and so on with brake lights etc...
I can hear it the other day while I was riding slowly with my helmet on so came back home to investigate and the sound appears to come from under the tank area....
Any suggestions.....definitely not the tank venting as Ive eliminated that and the fuel pump primming sound on start up is ok
Thanks guys
Do you have an aftermarket fuel pump? Mine is and it's noisier than the factory, now quieter since cleaning out the tea bag filter (thanks again Hooli for the tip)

Wouldn't have thought so as the bikes only done 11600 miles with fsh but haven't checked.....
Could be nothing just wondering if anyone else is bike does this
Ive only just bought it and can't remember my last one a few yrs back doing this but then again I can't remember nothing these days
Gixer, not sure what noise could be. Classic symptoms of loading lights etc changing things, usually a bad connection. Check batt terminals, main thing id do is add extra earth lead, or check original. Bad earth creates all sorts of probs. Someone recently just had earth probs. Theres a link somewhere of my extra earth wire, i reckon it made a difference. Hope this helps👍
mine whines and it comes from the LED bulb with a built in fan :bugga:

Cheers for that.....
Put battery on charge last night just incase it was low but on a quick volt measure this morning it was at 12.9v not running which is perfect...did not have time to run it....
What's odd is wouldn't the noise be there all the time if it was an earth issue and not just when running making me think its maybe an electrical/earth problem with the fuel pump as its coming from what appears the left side underneath the fuel tank
Extra earth wire a $2 mod, give it a go. Nothing to lose. My charge rate became very stable, reckon bike starts easier. Might solve your prob, might not, still reckon every 14 should have it done. Cheap, easy and peace of mind.
Could just be the fuel pump, I can just about hear mine when running & they do get louder if the teabag is dirty. I've had one of the earth leads to the tank snap in the past too, everything still worked as it all earthed through the other one.
Mind you I've got a whining LED bulb cause of the fan on the back of that too & I can hear that change note with other electrical loads added or removed.

So could be nothing really then to worry about and just wear ear plugs and ride
Could be nothing yeah. It's easy to pop the fuel pump out & clean the teabag though, so if you do that & know it's clean then it's not a little worry at the back of your mind. I always notice when mine gets louder so I know it needs cleaning again.
Ignore the manual saying you need a new O-ring to refit the pump mount into the tank, I've never replaced mine & it's been off loads of times. I would use a smear of rubber grease on the O-ring where the pump fits to the base plate though, I managed to crack the fuel filter once when that O-ring jammed rather than slid.

Thanks Hooli....
Can I ask without sounding thick... why would switching electrical components on make this sound what seems to be coming from underneath the tank which does point to the fuel pump and also that it only happens when running so fuel pump is on aswell have to do with the teabag filter....
Is it cos its struggling
Thanks once again
The pump's intake is via the teabag filter, so if it's blocked the pump has to work harder. I suspect the pump can cavitate if sucking to hard (makes bubbles) which means a lot more noise, everyone remembers that from Hunt for the Red October right?
As to switching things on & off, as you do that the voltage the bike is running on will vary slightly due to the change in load & that results in the pump changing speed slightly. It's the pressure that matters to the injection system rather than the pump speed so it makes no difference to the bike.
