Title: Best sounding motorcycles
Post by: Eric GSX1400K3 on Monday, 21 March 2022, 09:20 PM
Just wondering from the collective wisdom on here what the best sounding motorcycles of all time are?

To start things off these have my vote:

1) MV Augusta F4
2) Ducati 996
3) Suzuki TL1000R
4) GSX1400 *

*with aftermarket system: Akra or Conti's or similar

Velocettes

There might be a theme here.

Any two-stroke TRIPLE, over 250cc. I've excluded big fours as they all need aftermarket cans to sound anything like decent :stir:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwi9JWvFpeW/?utm_medium=copy_link                 The iphone mike doesn't do it justice, but it is quite ducati unique with custom made 50 mm 2 into one headers  exiting through a carbon can, everyone who has ever heard it at full noise (including me)reckons it's the best sounding bike they have heard

Benelli Sei
Laverda SFC

I've got a thing for ridiculous unreliable Italian motorcycles.  I'm probably one of the few idiots who'd' rather have a Benelli Sei than a CBX.but having said that the CBX also sounds great.

Best sounding track-only bike?

So many great sounding bikes, hard to choose best. Contis on old bevel Dukes, even on Guzzi sounded nice. Had same on GS1000, beautiful. Chambers on my old Mach 3, incredible. Current Tri Oval, no baffle on 14 rates up there. Too many to choose. Ill post later my most liked.

It's easy. The best sound machine ever is the six-cylinder Honda CBX1000 with a Stigefeldt or Devil 4 to 1 exhaust system. There is many posts on Youtube on this, just search on "Honda CBX sound" and you will find some examples. There is one video I will come back with a link, it's really awesome......  :clapping:

Do like the CBX1000, along with CB 400 four couple of mates had them with Devil pipe sweet.  Saying that was sitting up on caravan site in Braemar some sweet sounding bikes winding up on their way south.  :clapping:

As well as those I mentioned earlier I do have to say I really do love the sound of my mates Buell XB9.
That's the only bike I'd tolerate with a Harley engine in it.

Laverda made a V8. I heard it run at a Concourse once a very unique sound 🎼🎼🎼

Personal taste.

Of the ones I've owned my old big bore Kat with a full Harris Works system, and my 14 with a full Yoshi Cyclone system both have a wonderful top end howl to them.

Supercharged H2's with the full $3500 titanium VanDemon systems are one of the nicest I've heard recently.

Long ago a was racing my nitrous Bandit at Avon Park Raceway drags. It had a pretty loud straight through can on it, I went up against an old H2 triple, a money pit genuine Denco King Cobra. When we staged to launch I genuinely couldn't hear my own bike, the noise from his just cut through me, I could feel it as much as hear it. Denco race pipes with no cans. Audible pain!

I have a full system on my GSX1100, holding it in the lower gears through the tunnels around Brisbane was fun, never seen so many drivers checking mirrors or turning heads!

GSX, not sure about v8 but they made v6. Once read a story, a dinner invite to Massimo Laverda house very special, after numerous Italian wines his fave trick was to start the v6 in his lounge room.

Yes @grog V6 & curved drive shaft to counter the throw from spinning so fast. Impressive engineering for that time. Painted orange to differentiate from all the black British bikes. 🤔🤔
It would have been at Laverda Concourse when it was still under the Story Bridge 👍

Not a hope in Hell. Stock wheelbase Bandit running 60hp of nitrous just wanted to point at the sky, long low screaming drag bike was gone!  160hp (guesstimate) Bandit was good for wheelies and show boating, but not quick off the line.

My Nitrous Bandit, big bore Kat and GSXR at Avon Park.

I really liked the sound of my Triumph 1200 Thruxton with Vance and Hines mufflers and cat delete. Also had one of the first Yamaha TRX 850's that came into Australia.  It had aftermarket cans and was loud. It used to crack when started, I was always setting off car alarms lol. I do like the sound of twins, I had a Ducati Diavel with an aftermarket muffler and it sounded sweet.

TRX do sound good. Had Diavel with Zard , not too bad, nearly 3g exhaust. Contis on old Ducati rocked, Contis on old 650 Yam were great, Contis on GS1000 with opened up headers was beautiful. I do like my current Tri Oval on 14, DB  killer out. Most 270 degree twins sound so good. CBX Honda, 6 open cans, thats the best. Benelli same. You can guess my most hated, dominant brand around here.

Best sounding bike that I've ever heard was at a swap meet, somewhere in central england in the 90's. Waiting in line to park up on the grass and the ground next to me starts shaking with a massive thud, thud beat. Was a ducati 888 with a set of pipes. Remembered that ever since.

Many reckon the best sounding bike ever was the honda cbx1000 (straight six) and, to be fair, it does sound a bit like an old F1 V12 engine when its at full chat.

My old gs1000(1100 kit) with pod filters and a stainless copy of a works Harris collector exhaust was an amazing sound when ridden hard .
The old 8valve motors were great .

Had a Buell with a V&H can, sounded lovely.
Got a bit louder when the can fell off whilst out for a ride. Had a 20mile ride home with can stuffed down me leathers sticking over me shoulder like a periscope (nothing to see officer).
Carburettor fell off on a different trip, that was an "interesting" ride home.

Without a doubt my CBX.....Removed the silencers to leave the 6-2 down pipes.

And my pals z1300....6-1...no silencer...just a chrome car turn out....

Both sounded amazing on full chat racing each other down the A1

I just sat here and put up with worst. Open pipes, revving at max, around 5k RPM im guessing, then the big back off backfiring, then goes again. So many of them, so many exact same sound. Only electric vehicle im hoping for is Harley.

Had a Z1300 EFI myself. twin open end cans, sounded like a jet engine on take off. Great bike though made the 1400 look like a moped lol
