TIMING
This won't be happening in the next few days, by any means.
There are quite a few things I need to get done in the background beforehand.
Update (when it happens) could mean an "outage" (downtime) of between 3 and 12 hours.
I will give PLENTY of notice here when the time comes, and will also post updates / progress on the facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/gsx1400owners
(Pretty sure you don't need to be a facebook user to just view it).
All looking good
Thanks for your hard work behind the scenes

Can confirm Mike, I'm not on Facebook but I watched the video, thx for the update prewarning....
Great work Vlad👍 Looking fwd to learning it. No Facebook for me either. Hoping not linked to it.
No it isn't Grog, just as usual. You will have to Log In again though, so dig out your passwords guys.
Must admit I had to listen to the pronunciation of VladTepes a couple of times - not what I expected!
Thanks for your hard work, making a great forum even better :salute:
I'm happy as long as it's not like a Microsoft improvement where it's worse and nothing works afterwards :whistling:
:hat:Cheers Vlad and thanks for all the help, info and welcome from you guys. Great forum

I keep getting prompts to update to Windows 11. My son who is in IT cyber crime tech said..DON'T do it :imrgreen:
Great work on the forum update though
@VladTepes look forward to using it once it's sorted and running :onya:
Hi well done, I haven't been on the site for ages as I thought every one had gone onto face book and I thought through organic had gone until I received the email saying it's being up dated.
Regards Gibbo.

No-one of any importance uses facefuck, just look at the news to see who the users are :whistling:
Hurrah for upgradings.
All looking as if it's going in the right direction :)
Well done and thank you.
BTW, Please keep communicating via the forum, I'm another that can't be doing with Facebook - but that might be because I haven't got any mates.

Yeah, down under we do have a distinct dialect compared to you lot up norf. Kiwi's & Aussies can understand each other no problem, (but the Aussies do speak a bit funny at times) :onya: Mind you, just think how different the regions speak in the UK! :confused1:
Don't worry I'll be communicating primarily by the forum. :onya:
I'm not a huge FB fan but its just the easiest way to communicate to people when the forum is down for the upgrade.
You don't need to be logged in or have a FB account just to read it (as far as I know)
one request: Could people go into the video on YT and just click like please. It'll help my channel get more exposure and maybe un turn that'll lead a few more people to the forum. Perhaps.

It's the Romanian pronunciation naturally.
Vlad Tepz in Australian. 😂
I believe in the Slavic languages, the "T" is "Tsh" and the "S" is "sh". Not his real surname, "Tepes" is Romanian for "Impaler", his preferred method of torture, eating his dinner while his victims slowly impaled themselves on large wooden spikes, aided by gravity...
Also known as Dracula, loved those movies.
Yep family name Dracul.
Inpiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Just bumping this thread hoping most people have seen it.
Hi ALL !
New TEST site has been installed
https://gsx1400owners.org/21upgradetest/index.php?action=forum
Please note the sample is a test site only NOT the working version of the ORG so anything you post there will NOT be posted here, and will be lost.
Let me know what you think.
@gsxbarmy @KiwiCol @Proteous
It's all looking very nice .
Well done a bet a fair bit of work gone into it
That's different!
@VladTepes On the new forum:
- No Logout option? Or if there is one I couldn't find it to logout?
- Birthday is out of date - reads 2021, not 2022
- if you look on user profile, its not showing the location map for the member
Looking good so far
@VladTepes :onya:
I'm probably still logged in as already mentioned by Dave, I couldn't find a LOG OUT option.
Nice, just suggest that in the "cleaning and polishing" secton there should be either a piccy of gsx barmy's bike showing what can be achieved, or of Hooli's of, er, what not to do...
On the new forum:
- No Logout option? Or if there is one I couldn't find it to logout?
Go to top left hand side where your name appears, click on down arrow and there's a log out option.
- Birthday is out of date - reads 2021, not 2022
ha yeah I'll fix that message when we update the real forum, cheers.
- if you look on user profile, its not showing the location map for the member
The location map is modification (mod) added on and needs refining, updating :) It will come :)

Indeed and most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the theme has been done by a fellow I know - Les, from Leicester - for which he has not asked any payment etc (despite being a broke-arse pensioner) but I think some form of recognition is due.
New site feels a lot more "now" if that makes any sense. Have not tried to upload or post stuff but the first impression is nice ( on a mobile phone screen)
Forgot to mention Vlad, looks real good. Lots of hard yakka in that i reckon.
OK time for another update, news-wise.
As mentioned we are currently using the 'older' forum software version 2.0.x (currently 2.0.19)
I have been testing the new software, - beta version on my forum ytyak.com and the site linked in the original post in this thread is on 2.1.1 (production).
The updated SMF forum software is now up to 2.1.2 and is sufficiently stable that I am pappy to upgrade the forum to the new version of the software.
So that job has moved from my "one day" list to my "to do" list.
There will be a few changes and for those who have not seen, have a look at
the video here:
and the sample forum here:
https://gsx1400owners.org/21upgradetest/index.php?action=forum
(Please note the sample is a test site only NOT the working version of the ORG so anything you post there will NOT be posted here, and will be lost).
Some of the major changes off the top of my head include:
* 'Likes' are now built into the forum's core software, rather than a separate mod. They'll work in exactly the same way, only existing likes won't get carried over.
* @mention members is also now part of core not an add on, it will work exactly the same way it does now.
* Some of the modifications we have on the forum are not compatible with the new forum software. In some cases we can get by without them, in some cases a good alternative is available, and in some cases authors have updated existing mods to suit!
* The most significant and important difference (and the key reason I have waited to update the forum) is that some of the security mods (protecting us from spammers) are not compatible with the new version, and the authors are no longer around to update them, and they don't have a software license allowing others to update them legally.
The good news is that I've implemented a new antispam measure and have been testing it on the two forums I run (this one and YTYak.com) and it is effective. It's a paid product but not expensive and certainly worth it.
So functionally there won't be too much to get your head around - the main thing is to
familiarise yourself with the user menus (see top left hand corner of the example site)
The remainder of the changes for most people are largely aesthetic.
(There is a change to where things are found in the admin menus so a few of us will need to get used to that - me included)
Feel free to ask any questions.
And if you are watching the video on YouTube please like and subscribe. :onya:
Good job mate, new interface looks good
So the PLAN is to do it this weekend, my time.
I'm posting this Thursday 14/7 4:35PM
(GMT +10)
Downtime will be anywhere from 45 minutes to 6 days  but prob a few hours.
Just don't break it ......
Please
Go for it Mike. All trust in you.
Update: Well the plan is for this to happen later this week or on the weekend.
I'll put the site into maintenance mode before the update so that hopefully there won't be any period during which posts are lost.
Important! Please note that you will have to know your password to log back in after the upgrade occurs.
Auto-fill passwords may not work for the first login as the 'cookies' will change.
Any questions feel free to ask. :) :onya:
Update: yeah yeah I know. :) Will happen soon will keep you all informed :)
There is actually a mild hiccup with 2.1.2 and version 2.1.3 is evidently not far around the corner (and addresses the potential hiccup) so I may wait until that happens. Hopefully just a matter of weeks.
Meanwhile if anyone hasn't watched the video - please do.
And if you are watching the video on YouTube please like and subscribe. :onya:
Thanks all.
Ok the new version 2.1.3 has now been released and I WILL be updating the forum.
I'll give you all plenty of notice. Certainly won't be before this weekend.
The forum will still be located at https://gsx1400owners.org/forum so any shortcuts and bookmarks you have will still work.
Steps you need to take in advance:
1. Ensure you know your username and PASSWORD.
(auto fill may not work first time you login as the 'cookie will change'
2. Ensure you've watched - and understand - the above video.
3. Follow or bookmark our facebook page where I will update as I go. link: https://www.facebook.com/gsx1400owners/
4. Ensure you have something else to do for a half-day or so. I dunno maybe get out on the 1400! Or for you winter types - have a sauna (for you Finns) or huddle around the inadequate radiator consuming lots of expensive gas and slowly freezing to death (for those in the UK). :stir:
Stay Tuned. :onya:
Vlad, no clue on my password, can i reset. Forget this post, just sorted it.
:rofl2:just reset your password to be "forgot", so then when you can't remember it, clicking the link "forgot your password?" You'll then remember it.....

When colleagues at work forget their passwords it often ends up as 'Amnesia123'.
Nah "U4GOTIT" always works...... :onya:
OK We are at the stage of doing a duplicate of the ENTIRE forum (bit of excess server space needed for that I can tell you) so we can test the upgrade succeeds without errors.
Once we can be sure of that I will announce a date for the actual changeover. (finally)
Any members who haven't done so yet please view:
