Had $5 battery replaced in watch, $25. Turns out they didnt refit seal for back case. Mongrels. Filled with water last weekend. Seal kits $10 on E Bay, no guarantee right one amongst the 500 supplied. Watch company have seals, wont send one, watch needs to be posted to them, $12 each way, $30 to fit new seal. So rang local bloke. $25 to supply/fit seal. How hard to get a seal worth 20 cents, about as hard to fit as doing your helmet up. No wonder we all get fed up with the crap, ill just find a way, make my own.

Its why I only buy cheap watches these days
@grog these days in the UK, its about £10 to get a jeweller to swap a battery which I can buy off eBay for next to nothing and fit myself. And then if the watch does get stuffed, I just buy another cheapo. My last cheapo has lasted 7 years so far and only cost me £3 for 2 batteries which I've done myself.... :onya:
National Watch repair chain had an offer of free replacement watch batteries for life for approx 50% more than a standard battery - Mrs Notty has had 10 years and some 6 batteries - good buy :)

`Superdry` watches for me every time - masses of choice and i`ve never paid more than £30 for one (TK MAXX). I appear to have quite a collection going, unintentionally.
Just pull the pin when not wearing a watch and it`ll save the battery until you next wear it. Batteries last forever that way :onya:

Agree about cheap watches the way to go. Problem is Wifey gave me this one for 60th, imagine if i just tossed it. Thered be no more 14 bits allowed on the credit card,the worst thing that could happen to me.

Like globalrider I have quite a collection of watches myself..Not as many as he has though.
I change the batteries myself too. Some are harder to do than others, but saves a fortune in the long run. I invested in a watch repair kit from Amazon and in most cases it does the job. I do need to buy a press to refit the snap on backs though as without one, some can be a nightmare to refit.
I'm actually thinning my collection out a bit over the coming months. My Seiko Astron GPS Solar has been for sale for a while now in various places. Lots of interest, but people just make stupid offers for it along with loads of scammers on facebook marketplace trying to con me out of it :furious:

@grog automatics is a term that means as the watch moves around (i.e. as your arm. wrist is moving) it self-winds. Watch can be wound by shaking it briefly.
Many automatics also allow winding via the crown.

I've got two auto's.
My Seiko 5 Sports Auto and a very good "copy" Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 007. I knew the Omega was a copy when I bought it, so not ripped off. I got a local jeweller to have a look at it and he said that although not a genuine Omega, it was an exceptionally good copy. I only paid £150 for it.
The only watch I'd like to sell at the moment is my Seiko Astron GPS Solar. That never needs winding or a battery :imrgreen:
