On the ferry heading to the South Island for a couple of weeks. The wet weather gear got a workout yesterday heading from home down to the ferry in Wellington. Works well 👍
Good crossing, 15 mins will be in Picton. Only six bikes on the ferry.
Thanks for putting me up and for the Port Hills tour last night Col. Downtown Timaru for lunch.
You're welcome mate, any pic's of Wanaka when you got there? Would have been a bit damp I reckon - with the Norwesters here . . .
So this is me tonight.
When I got back from the pub I noticed my tyre had gone out and got a body piercing without asking me......... I am not happy !!
Col, PIA. Id get it plugged from inside, continue on.
Aye that'd plug nae wurries.
Enjoy the ride and keep the pictures coming :)

Unfortunately I am used to getting plugs put in new tyres. When I gassed up last night there was a couple on a new Honda CB 1000 the rear Dunlop had delaminated. Said they had stopped to take a photo and his missus heard hissing, he checked it and found a big bubble. I pushed it, was thin on the tread and firm at the carcass. The bike had done less than 3k.
Timaru main Street. The old girl still turns heads.
I had a PR4GT delaminate with about 1k miles on it. Makes them very odd to ride on when you start to lean right & the medium strip of rubber has no support so it's like a flat tyre, until you lean far enough to get on the soft bit of course. It exploded later in the day up an Italian motorway, I'm glad it didn't go earlier on Alpine passes as I hadn't worked out what was wrong.
@ Notty.
The're queued up waiting for the next batch of blondes to turn up
You still in Omarama Col?
Got to Lumsden at 8.30 this evening.
Stopped in at mates workshop on the way.
Photo from the top of the Crown Range before dropping down into Queenstown.
Last snap is from the top of the Lindis Pass
Think I drove the Lindis pass when I was in the South Island, great scenery and great roads :onya:

Blonde sheep ???? 🧐🤪😂😂😂
Smashed the screen of my phone so can't access photos or address book. Got a new phone now !!
Went to an amazing classic bike museum in Invercargill and spied this there.
Where in Invergarghill was that? We visited the hardware store where Burt Munroe's Indian is on display and the gift shop, I can't remember seeing those bikes though....we were there in 2018.
So I've been in Lumsden with the grandies. Hadn't seen them in ages, we had such a great time.
Anyway left there today first stop was Queenstown
Snaps are on the way there.

New motorcycle museum down the other end of town. Three floors of bikes will put a few more up.
Telelever from the end, awesome. Should be more of that in GP racing....
Britten's handmade alternative front suspension is a modern redevelopment of Norman Hossack's girder/wishbone parallelogram suspension or systems designed by Claude Fior. ... But it is a girder fork nonetheless. Britten had four reasons for scrapping the proven race-quality White Power telescopic fork.
@Eric GSX1400K3 for your edification.
A work of art :hat:
@Kiwifruit Col is there a filter in those pics or is the sky genuinely that blue ?

Snaps are on the way to Glenorchy. Anyone visiting NZ must go there. The most amazing scenery and the road is pretty good too. From Queenstown one way in and one way out. First time there for me.
Queenstown is awesome. We did the luge/Billy cart thing up on the mountain,so much fun.
Windsurfed with a guy that raced the Britten he reckons it would have been faster with conventional forks.

I never like to loiter there.... my ex, "the dried arrangement" haunts the place. I mean lives there
I've only ever been to Queenstown in winter to Snow Ski. Looks very different in Spring
One for Vlad, maybe two then, but only because he's the boss. :onya:
My dad used to compete on one of these except this is a 500 his was a 350
No visit to Invercargill is complete without a visit to Hayes Hardware and Burt Munro's display. The car and trailer used in "The Worlds Fastest Indian" movie.
Today's ride took me from Wanaka to Cromwell about 40kms. Bikes had the most gentle weave, I was worried the wheel alignment was out. The fella there measured the alignment and said it was less than 1mm out. That was great to know so that was not the problem. He reckoned the bike was down in the front because of the load. Cranked in 3 turns of preload and said the front end on the 14 is usually too soft. Weave is gone and the bike is more precise. Happy deal :onya:
Back to Wanaka then off to Haast and the West Coast. Got a room at Fox Glacier and now having dinner at a nice little bar. Place is usually humming but Covids killed tourism....its perfect !!
Two photos from my pit stop at Lake Hawea.
Next two on the way to Haast taken at the same stop
Last one is of Fox Glacier main Street.
We dis the same route, albeit in one of those godawful Britz camper homes. Had a weave too,but that's because I wanted to chuck it off the cliff.
A couple of Kea, the native NZ parrot just turned up. Tried to drop the salt and pepper shakers off the outside tables. They try to rip windscreen wiper blades off cars. Nice birds but can do a lot of damage.
We saw them snip off an antenna off a minibus at Arthur's Pass, cleaner than secateurs. Not shy at all
Looks a beauty day there Col, nice pic's. Gates of Haast always looks great eh.
Disappointingly Hooli, Samantha FOX had nothing to do with them.......
@Kiwifruit those water pics are great but in this one how does the water not all flow downhill to the left? :stir:
Despite what you may

Despite what i may like. In New Zealand......ooops Aotearoa, everything leans heavily left
Lunch in Hokitika today.
Slumming it at Punakaiki. You don't get too many fine days without any rain on the West Coast. Stunning scenery.
How's the economy generally Col. Are they happy to see the tourist dollars returning ? :confused1:
Don't think there's any tourists here, just a few Kiwi's moving about.
The photos all look amazing is it a phone camera ?
Yes kingi, I smashed my old one last week so l could buy a new one.
Will be interested to see what they look like full size rather than just on the phone. Might be very jaggy as I reduce them to 40 percent so they load quickly.
Room service is a bit slow this morning. I better hurry and get packed up as I think the liquid sunshine is on it's way.
Saw a nice SE in Hokitika yesterday. I was too slow to get a snap.

That should be FE
Late lunch at Havelock. Lots of bikes about for a Movember Ride.
Coppers enjoying the trade, they've dropped the speed limits from 100 to 80 and 80 to 60. Nearly fell from the bike dozing off.
Went the market in Nelson this morning and spotted this. Amazing work :clapping:
Queen Charlotte Sound great views but the roads been badly knocked about.
Queen Charlotte Sound
Picton where you get on and off the ferry.
Some nice tin in the carpark at the motel. The red one has a 427cu supercharged Corvette engine in it. Over 600hp at the wheels and 1200 fb lb of torque he says. Will ask more about it tomorrow on the ferry.
I'm on the ferry at 7.45am. The weather has closed in so made the call to head home. Sounds like the winds getting up too.
For your info Col
@Kiwifruit the pics are showing up really well on my Laptop. Stunning scenery
Agree Chris. Great camera Col, looking on 32inch monitor, stunning.
Thanks guys. Seeing them on a phone just cannot do the scenery justice.
Rolled in home at 7.00 this evening. I have paperwork that has backed up so I can now get that sorted.
Another reason for changing my ferry crossing was that I had managed to stay ahead of some bad weather that was coming up the coast.
I enjoy having management with me on some of these trips and I'd like to share these experiences and places with her. She was very supportive of me heading to see my son his partner and the grandies at the bottom of the South Island. I look forward to trekking off back down there in February or March.
The ferry was chocca heading back today but only 3 bikes.
Mt Ruapehu in the central North Island was visible today , wife always likes a snap of her mountain.
I hope the photos have given you a taste of what is on show in our great little country at the bottom of the planet. I was well received everywhere l went and met some great people along the way.
Interestingly the 14 was a great conversation starter, some old fellas reminiscing of days when they rode motorcycles. A chap with terminal cancer telling me he missed his bike as his missus made him sell it. He had a good laugh when I said the bike shops are open again on Monday.
Came out of a supermarket and a big Maori fella carrying a music stand, a guitar on his back and a bag says "nice bike", I reply "nice guitar" he says "wanna swap" I say "na, you can ride my bike but I can't play your guitar" good chat followed.
A bloke with a loaded bike enjoying his travels is the envy of many....... men and women.
After putting her back in the shed I patted her tank and thanked her for 3720 kms of faultless running and enjoyment in some pretty trying conditions.
Cheers  ya all.
Well done Col, you did well to stay ahead of the wet on the coast, lot of slips & closures over there, Dave Barmy knows what that's like too.

All too well Col sadly!!!!!! Still remember that 10 hour drive from the Franz Josef glacier all the way down to the South and then back up to Christchurch!!!!
Toughen up Barmy.......some people do that to get a bottle of milk :stir:

It was a very informative tale of your travels Col. Riding a motorcycle in the country side is very enjoyable. Bobbie has expressed an interest in riding from North to South of NZ if we're ever allowed to travel again. (Thanks WUFLU)
