G'day all, New to 14's. 2008 K7. 32,000Km. The throttle seems way to sensitive at the lower end. When slowing down it goes form an normal decrease then in a very small movement of the throttle it goes into full idle engine braking. The movement is so small that bumps can make it happen. Throws the weight forward and unsettles the bike. I'm not a racer but this makes the bike less than ideal.
I adjusted the idle up to 1700 and that gets rid of that problem but adds others. With the idle set at 1100 the problem is there.
I did try riding two gears lower, whilst this moves the throttle range to a better place I feel I would end up without a licence or dead.
Is this how the 14's are or do I have a problem?

Hi Turk. That doesn't sound quite right. Mine will lurch if i go over a speed bump and am not being careful. Usually I find it easy to ride with small throttle openings.
Someone will be along soon that will be able to give you some advice. There has been some talk on here of quick action throttles. Maybe you already have one ?
Have you tried re-adjusting your throttle cables? Details are in the handbook.
You might also check your Throttle Position Sensor, as these sometimes need adjusting - method described here - as that may be your issue

Had the same problem with mine when I first got it. Barmy is right on the money with this.... adjust the free play in the cables according to the manual... right now I bet you have far too much. Then check and adjust the tps... make sure the tickover is at 1100 and all should be sweet :onya:
If you're used to riding a bike with carbs then fuel injected is totally different on the throttle.
Took me a while to get used to the GSX after riding my Mk1 Bandit 1200 for years. I'm used to it now and can switch between bikes with no problems at all.
The Bandit is far more responsive than the FI. I'd love to try carbs on the GSX and see what it's like.
I know what Turk means, I'm sure mine does the same, but I've got used to it & ride accordingly.
I recognize the part where you go from having revs to full deceleration & engine braking in the minutest bit of throttle. I too chopped down a few gears to keep the revs higher. I only notice this though in town in traffic, stop start & slow running situations.
Maybe a TPS check is on the cards for me as well, I'll get my weekend ride over first though.
not at all normal for mine. my cure is pretty much all written. tighten cables, 1100 revs at idle, 1100 ohms resistance at idle tps. block off pairs. so sweet. tighten throttle cables as tight as you can, no diff lock to lock. get that tps correct, file out slots if needed. pairs can be done many ways. easiest is just block its air intake from air box. no more bucking or jumping. to go one better, get a healtech atre. works for me and im fussy. you can check intake butterflies, i have, always seem perfect. just do it, makes a nice bike perfect.

My bike is standard except for a aftermarket can and iridium plugs and its smooth at all speeds and throttle settings, hope you find the problem soon.

Yeh, got to agree with the others on that, should make it a lot better.
And the TPS was at 2K ohms. Test ride soon.
Fixed Gentlemen. Many thanks to all who replied. It's just like a real bike now.
In the Haynes manual it says you should have 2-4 mm of throttle freeplay. I adjusted it with no freeplay and it's great to ride now.
