Title: ZERO electric motorcycles
Post by: Rynglieder on Sunday, 19 September 2021, 10:49 PM
Idle musing...

Has anyone formed any thoughts on the Zero range of electric motorcycles? I found myself wandering round one on the stnad at a dfealership last month whilst I was waiting for a tyre to be fitted to the GSX. These later models seem to look a bit more like proper bikes than the first ones I saw.

The one on display had a touring fairing and pannier option and actually looked like you could go somewhere on it (rang anxiety aside).

(Sorry if this has already come up but a search on the forum drew no result - admins please feel free to delete if we have been here before)

Thanks MJT, I've just taken a look, that was a well well considered and written review.

I don't think they are ready for proper touring with that sort of range so no replacement for my GTR or GSX, but maybe would do the job of my Z1000 for the short hooligan rides (if they were half the price).

As the dealer that I was chatting to pointed out if you are going on a 200 mile run it is no problem to plan to get a charge half way through your run at the same time as you lunch or a walk around your destination. The problem is that biker's often take a ride out in groups so if there are six of you and only one charging point at the sea front the guy at the tail end of the ride is going to have to make his lunch last 9 hours.

The day may come - but not yet...

Errm 200 miles is an easy stint in the saddle when enjoying the ride, why would you want to stop halfway through it?

Zero did sell motorcycles here in Australia but has ceased doing so. Demand very low.

To me, part of the draw of biking is the sound of the engine and exhaust/induction noise. This will never be replicated on an electric bike as they just whine.

So on that note..I'm out!

Doesn't matter how fancy they make milkfloats, they are still milkfloats & I don't want one.

Just put a boombox on the pillion seat and play a recording of your favourite motorcycle Hooli.  :rofl3:
