I'm after some help from the knowledgeable chaps on here as I have little of it. The other day when I was moving the 14 so I could get the Bandit out I dropped it onto the left side, basically the side stand caught on the tyre of the Bandit and it flicked up. I didn't notice this and as I let it go thinking the stand was down it kept going  I held it for so long but in the end had to let it go and went over the bike myself, much to the amusement of my wife who just happened to be there at the time.
I have fitted a replacement clutch lever which is all that seemed to be damaged but it won't start. When I push the button, after the dials have done their sweep, nothing happens, silence, no clicks or anything. Someone has suggested that it could be the tilt switch. I have looked for this thing but can't find it. I don't know what it looks like which doesn't help and the trusty Haynes manual has also let me down.
The bike is an 02 model. Does it have a tilt switch? If anyone could help re it's location, photo etc, or is the problem likely to be something else?
To my untrained eye nothing seems amiss, the only visible damage was the broken clutch lever and a gouge in the floor of the garage.
Thanks in advance, Mark
Shame, they're a big lump when standing still,or falling over
Also check the kill switch at the side stand, this may have gotten damaged or stuck, so the bike thinks the stand is down then it cuts out. Also check the clutch microswitch.
I don't know if k2 have a tilt switch, I think they all do... I need to read up again where they are, I think behind one of the plastic side panels, lhs I think.
Thanks for the response Eric I'll take a look at that. I had a bit of an "off" the other week when some idiot drove straight onto the island I was already on - thank f@*k for engine bars and top boxes - as that only broke the brake lever, and it started with no problem on that occasion when I got her upright again :confused1:
Tip over sensor (on K5 on) is above and behind the rear brake reservoir, I would imagine it will be in the same place if it has one.
Aye the tip switch is in the middle of the bike somewhere.
However I think they only cut the fuel/ignition rather than the starter as they are designed to cut the bike out when it's dropped while riding. I'd be rechecking the new clutch lever actually activates the clutch switch, if it doesn't then the starter circuit is disabled.
I've also never heard of a tip switch actually being faulty.
Thanks Hooli and thanks to everyone else, my "like" button doesn't seem to be working :onya:
I checked the new clutch lever and it seemed ok, while I was at it I removed the clutch lever switch. As the old eyes aren't what they were, even with glasses, my wife took a picture of it with her camera and enlarged it. The end seemed to have a hole in it into which I put a tiny piece of plastic which I found on the garage floor - this acts as a plunger to complete the circuit when you pull the clutch in. Put it all back together, pushed the button and off she went :boogie:
Think you must be right Hooli re the operation of the tilt switch as I found where that is - as mjgt stated :onya: You have to remove the rear brake master cylinder to get to it so no use as a quick fix should you drop the bike.
Just off to order a new switch.
Thanks again great place for help this
My understanding of the 'tilt switch' is it operates when the bike is dropped. Once the bike is upright, again it disengages. It's just a mechanical thing.

Glad it was an easy fault, normally the best place to work is where you've just done something.
The like button is borked currently but
@VladTepes is sorting it out as part of some upgrades I believe.

I meant to ask this at the time, when I was knocked off a couple of years ago and again two months ago the engine kept running. Will this mean my tilt switch is not doing it's job? On both occasions I knocked it off with the kill switch
Only dropped mine once, was completelu upside down, wife under exhaust after it rolled over. Tried to turn on bush track, mound i rode onto was just mud, over we went. Bike did cut out, somehow i lifted bike upright, no idea how. She suffered burnt leg, only bike damage was rh mirror. Soft ground. Still plagues my dreams. Wish i had a video of my stupitidy.
I forget the exact figures but the tilt switch works at something like 87degrees & laying a bike down only puts it at about 80degrees. Tip it a bit further & it'll cut out, I guess it's an angle they've come up with to avoid random cutouts when it shouldn't happen.

Possibly got a problem with my switch then. Hope your wife was ok after your tumble :onya:

Perhaps the engine bars prevent it reaching the required angle then. Cheers Hooli
Thought of your whoopsie at the weekend Grog. Made my missus hop off when I had to do a U turn in deep gravel off the side of the road. Pleased I did, had to do a bit off paddling to get it done.
My only way now Col. If it looks dodgy she gets off. Old dogs can learn new tricks.
Glad you got it sorted relatively easily. Once a GSX14 starts to go over, you've got no chance of holding itonce it gets past a certain angle...Been there, done that.
That's my worry now. I don't move the 14 around anymore unless I'm sat on it as once it leans the weight worries the shit out of me. A couple of times it's leaned over when I've tried to wheel her out of the garage and I have barely been able to hold her up. Now I have the Commando the weight difference is really noticeable as I can move the Commando around with relative ease as it's around 100lbs lighter. Getting older and losing muscle power but ain't beaten yet.
Tore my left hamstring trying to hold my bike upright after loosing my footing. I heard the "pop" then felt the searing hot :furious: pain.
Should have let it go I know but nothing on the bike was damaged. :whistling:
