Title: NZ's back in Lockdown
Post by: KiwiCol on Tuesday, 17 August 2021, 07:28 PM
Well, it finally happened, after 170 days of Covid free, there's been a (single) case of community transmission of Covid, and bam! the whole country is locked down for 3 days minimum, Auckland & Coromandel are locked down for 7 days minimum.  Seems a bit over the top really, but we'll see.

Just 10 minutes after the notification the Mrs  :smitten: is lining up jobs for me for the next 3 days!!  and I can't even escape to work!  :whatever: Yay me.  :happy1:

There's nothing like a massive overreaction to try & keep the panic going is there?

Yeah, at level 4 (strictest level) you're still allowed out for a walk, & to get essential supplies, but have to wear a mask (don't have one anymore??) and stay 2m apart from people. Not allowed to go joy riding, have to stay in our own local area.  Roads will be empty again & any traffic movements are very conspicuous, however, as you say, I'm on the way to the supermarket & got detoured by 185 kilometers . . .

Bang on the money there Hooli. Our communist leader loves the control.
I thought everyone traveling here had to have produced a negative test before boarding a plane. But seems our quarantine facilities are full of people with the new and improved delta (Indian) variant.
Col I reckon the princess will not let us out till Monday at the earliest.

Changed the oil and filter yesterday. Who knows when they will let us go out riding again.
We live on a rural road, recently they dropped the speed limit from 100kph to 80kph. Out the front of the property yesterday having a tidy up. Been amazed how fast some bikes...and cars are going past the house.....surely must be essential workers  :rofl2:
Note traffic management plan in place   :onya:

Are all your covid cases in Auckland ?

My cousin in Ho Chi Minh says they now have night time curfew & 3500 people dying each day. There are 9 million in the city same size as Brisbane.

Nothing on the news about Vietnam

No Chris, we're all still locked up tight!  10 fecken days now.  There's none in the South Island, yet we're all locked up too, just to keep us safe, lovely.  It wouldn't be so bad if there was virus actually in the South Island, but there's not.
They talk about 'bubbles' well why not have a South bubble & a North bubble?  They (Norf Islanders) keep the virus up there & we get on with things, back to work & get the economy going again. Our finance minister says we, (the govt) is in good shape and can sustain lockdown for a lengthy period, that as may be, but what about the individuals and businesses who earned the money that got you the big cash reserve?  they might not be able to stay in lock down for a protracted period!!  There will be more than a few businesses going broke because of this.   Dumb arse politicians only think of themselves and preach to us every day at 1pm or a bit later some days.

There is light at the end of the tunnel though, (hopefully) today at 1pm we'll find out if they're going to keep the South still in lockdown.  Lets get back to work . . .

You're right about the 1pm preaching Col. I'm sick of the sight of the woman. I cannot understand why the South Island isn't back in business. Oh thats right the government is keeping you safe.
The masks we are all wearing have a 10 micron gap in the weave of the fabric, the covid monster is 0.3 of a micron.
Don't worry about the money Col the are printing and borrowing more as we speak. It's hard to believe the incompetence of the politicians. Have you had your saline jab yet ? It's reported they had a little faux pax with the jabs in Christchurch.
Anyway Col please be seated at the prescribed time to see if the fairy princess will let you out to play. Until then cough into your elbow and be kind.

LOL, I thought the saline jab saga was up norf somewhere.  My first jab tomorrow at 1.20pm.  I got out to play this morning, was at the supermarket by 7.30, no queues & straight in. great, as opposed to going after 9.30am with queues very long. 1 in & 1 out.
